The final score is: 2 - 0 GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G P.S. = Please don't post results of other soccer (including MLS) games and other sports' games in this thread until at least 24 hours after they've ended.
It's only going to get worse. No one on the team seems to want to play for him, and they shouldn't. They should have taken my advice and not played literally.
2-0 isn't bad considering how wretchedly the team played and the early subs. Will we ever see Godoy -- or Alashe -- on the field again?
I've suffered through plenty of crap Earthquakes soccer over the years, endured the misery that was the Clash in the late nineties, but I'm absolutely convinced that this is a new all time low for this team, since that first game in '96.
I'd give Alashe more chances. Godoy should have been given up on long ago. I wish he'd never returned from the World Cup. I wish even more that they hadn't re-signed him to another contract.
Isn't John Fisher still chief owner of the Quakes? What the hell is he doing? We need a better head coach than Larry the Swede.
1997 was pretty bad. We were the worst team in MLS (of 10) despite having on paper a good roster: Wynalda Dayak Cerritos Lewis Kinnear Doyle Sullivan Emanelo Baicher Corrales Oddly that team had 2 prominent pundits, 2 prominent coaches, 2 prominent front office guys, 1 of whom may be the best of his generation.
Another two goals that should not have been conceded. Salinas needs to block that shot on the first goal. And they give the most dangerous payer on the field all the time in the world to one hop Andrew Tarfoot.
The players are vividly disinterested with Hyka and Hoesen really being the only ones that showed hustle throughout the game but it was all fruitless. They clearly have no faith in the coaching staff and are showing it with increased frustration during the game and the Alashe outburst. If the FO is serious about improving on-filed product then the next logical step is for them to let go off the coach and admit their mistake while using the second half to prepare for next season and utilize the whole roster with a new interim coach at the helm.
I have never seen a head coach in any league so blatantly show up his own guys. I'm furious on behalf of the Quakes players. #MTLvSJ— Matthew Doyle (@MattDoyle76) July 15, 2018
I get the sub for Godoy - he was a red card waiting to happen. But the sub for Alashe, apparently without telling him at halftime, was some amateur hour bull pucky.
When a player is subbed off and walks straight out of the stadium to the locker room and is not injured you know the coach is losing the respect of his players. That’s a big FU to the coach and we’ve seen it multiple times this year (I think Vako has done it at least twice).
I was pondering the question whether this was the lowest point, and the only lower point I can think of us was the Quakes match in New Jersey against the MetroStars back in 2009. The Quakes lost, 4-1, and the only people at the official viewing party were me and about a dozen front office staffers -- who were laughing at the Quakes, especially when Kelly Gray flubbed a ball in central defense that led to a clean breakaway goal. None of the staffers were laughing at Jack's today, and there were a few other miserable fans like myself there. So, no, the Quakes have been lower. But, there is still plenty of the 2018 season left to eclipse the record.
