Novara - Fiorentina 0-3, Jovetic scores twice

Jovetic was on target in either half to take his tally for the season to nine while Riccardo Montolivo also weighed in with his first of the campaign as Novara meekly surrendered at Stadio Silvio Piola.

The win was La Viola's first in four league outings and moves them into the top half of the standings, while defeat for Novara means the promoted side have now won just one of their last 14 in the league and they remain mired in the relegation zone, six points from safety.

Fiorentina went ahead with their first meaningful chance of the afternoon, Matteo Centurioni bringing down Jovetic in the area in the 20th minute and the striker picked himself up to fire the spot-kick into the bottom-left corner. He nearly made it two on 33 minutes when his drilled shot from outside the area flashed just wide of the right-hand post. The goal came three minutes before the interval. Juan Vargas was at the heart of the move that led to the goal, threading the ball through for Montolivo to drill a shot high into the right corner of Albanian Samir Ujkani's net.

Fiorentina wrapped up the scoring after 49 minutes, Adem Ljaljic sending over a cross that Jovetic picked up and tucked into the bottom-right corner.

The visitors continued to boss the game for the remainder of the second half, and although Vargas twice went close and Jovetic spurned the chance for a hat-trick with a close-range miss after 65 minutes, Novara's backline escaped without further punishment. Suddenly, Stefan Savic is now the center of attention

Already without Kolo Toure, who, along with brother Yaya, has been summoned to Gabon and Equatorial Guinea to take part in the African Cup of Nations with the Ivory Coast, Mancini’s squad has been shorn of its two most experienced center-halves. So the Manchester City coach threw Stefan Savic in the mix yesterday against Liverpool.

Savic made his full debut in the Carling Cup, against Birmingham in September, and also appeared as part of the City reserves in the earlier rounds against Wolves and Arsenal.

Savic has the attributes to one day become a fine player but he’s not yet in Kompany’s class, not many have been in the last season and a half. But he is by no means a rookie either. He kept Wayne Rooney quiet during Montenegro’s goalless draw with England in a Euro 2102 qualifier and has started in both the Premier League and Champions League this season.

He looked assured as City kept a clean sheet against United’s 11 men in the second half of Sunday’s cup tie. But a battle of might and muscle against 6ft 3in Andy Carroll, short on confidence or not, was an altogether different part of his education.

The Liverpool striker shrugged off Savic to draw a smart save from Joe Hart as early as the third minute. And a nervous opening half an hour was punctuated by a clumsy challenge on Daniel Agger, to give Steven Gerrard the chance to score the only goal from the penalty spot.

His arrival at City might have been low-key but as he disappeared down the tunnel at half-time, bloodied and bedraggled, with almost every camera inside the Etihad Stadium trained on him. He was reduced to a spot in the audience in the second-half as City flooded forward in search of a goal to take to Merseyside in two weeks’ time.

Further auditions, against Wigan and Spurs, will determine whether the youngster from Mojkovac is promoted from the supporting cast and thrust back into the limelight at Anfield.

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Soul FC announced on Tuesday that in mutual agreement, Manny Rojas will step down as head coach, and Novica "Novi" Marojević will assume head coaching responsibilities effective immediately.
"I appreciate all of the hard work and passion Manny put into the team," said Soul Owner and CEO David Mokry. "He is a man of great character and knowledge of the sport. It's unfortunate that the situation simply did not work out. We hold him in the highest regard and have a great level of respect for him. We wish him nothing but the best."
Marojević, who possesses more than 20 years of professional soccer experience, is set to lead the squad moving forward. The Montenegro native launched his career in his home country, playing for FC Sutjeska, FC Radnicki, FC Partizan, FC Vozdovac and FC Celik. He accumulated two national championships while playing for FC Sutjeska. He was also a member of the Montenegro National Soccer Team, and voted Best Junior Player in Montenegro during the 1989-1990 season.
Upon arriving to the United States, Marojević joined the Kansas City Attack for a nine-year stint, earning a championship in 1996. In 2004, Marojević joined the Chicago Storm. He then went on to play for the Detroit Ignition in 2006, Rockford Rampage in 2008, and finally, the Chicago Riot in 2011.
WIth Marojević now leading the efforts, the Soul (2-7) will look to turn their unfavorable record around, beginning this Friday when they take on the MISL defending champion and rival Milwaukee Wave at the Sears Centre Arena at 7:30 p.m. CT.
