Not sure why people are down on JJ. When called upon (except when stupidly asked to play RB) he's been solid. He's never going to be exceptional but he's good enough the play as an emergency starter... he just needs games.
He does have brain farts but id love to see him get a steady run of games before giving up on him. 7 million imo is not bad at all for at the worse a high level league player. He could also be considered international level. I don't think he would look out of place if he did pull on a jersey. So all in all its not a bad squad player for the age and money.
It's not that I'm down on him , it's that I think we can do better. If he turns it around, or improves significantly in the next year , I'll change my tune. I don't trust his decision making.
No, not a bad squad player , but if we get a younger CB to be our 4th guy, I'm almost certain the plan will be for him to surpass Jesus first , then to eventually steal a starting place. It depends on a lot of factors , but if we can flip the guy in a year , I would. Obviously if Manolas moves on, this entire line of thinking changes.
If we do end up selling Alisson and Inter don't make top 4, perhaps we could convince a certain Samir to come over to Rome. He's still got it, hasn't he?
The problem with Jesus is his salary, its too expensive for a bench player. He earns over 2M after taxes.
Ok that makes a difference. Yes its too high if he is to remain a player in and out of the line up. As I said id like to see him given a long run of games but. it probably won't work out for him.
As long as we're not subjected to him at RB ever again, I'm fine with 2 mil net for Jesus. He's solid and versatile.
It's looking like Florenzi will start. DDR, Strootman and Ninja in CM playing a 4-2-3-1 Alisson Florenzi, Manolas, Fazio, Kolarov Strootman, De Rossi Under,Nainggolan, Perotti Dzeko,
Hot Take - Florenzi is a problem. He isn't good enough to start at RB despite years of trying to fit him there. His defense remains poor and even offensively he hasn't been very good, particularly his crossing. I don't think he is a starter at CM or RW either. So the problem is that he is demanding a big salary (4m euro/year?) and he isn't worth it. He is a utility player. But then you're stuck with the fact that he is Roman and he is a fan favorite. So what do you do? Do you keep him and pay the "Roman Premium"? Or do you let him walk and worry about supporter backlash?
I mean, I think it’s unfair to keep playing him out of position in the prime of his career. I don’t even know what his natural position is anymore, but I’m all about keeping him here and trying to help him. If he doesn’t think we can do that for him and wishes to leave, I completely understand.
How funny how things change. I knew and saw this coming just a few months ago and was berated in the thread for even suggesting it. Nov 24, 2017 Of course they will sell Florenzi for the right price. DeRossi capitano del futuro should also be gone by the summer as well.
I think De Rossi's contract expires in 2019. It was terrible decision to renew him given his advanced age and deterioration; it makes one wonder about Monchi's judgement.
