Sky Sport: #Manolas has been sold to #Zenit for €30m, the Greek will earn €4m per season https://t.co/NC4XrSpVoB— RomaPress (@ASRomaPress) June 22, 2017
Monchi must have some sort of plan. I have to give the guy the benefit of the doubt, but hopefully once July 1 rolls around, we can start making some moves.
I cannot believe we couldn't get more from like Arsenal or Chelsea. Centerbacks have a high premium, how are we just offloading him to Zenit for 30 without getting some competition.
No, the official announcement is expected today, could be higher numbers. Right now everyone is saying 30M.
Who are we going to blame now?! Moreno? Always the mexicans... they only send the bad ones. BUILD THE WALL!
I have no idea why Manolas would decide to leave here for Zenit. It's a sideways step at best for what? What goes on in his mind to accept that, although that maybe the problem. There's not much going on up there.
I've read several times one of the reasons they have decided to sell Manolas was his temper and his fighting with teammates. I guess the dust-up with Dzeko was the last straw.
I would have to assume Fazio stays? If he goes I'm really concerned about our back. I get people think his speed is an issue playing a high line but it becomes much less important if you play organized. Not to mention he really is a fantastic passer out of the back and great in the air. I'll take a slow CB that's in the right position over a fast one that's not.
What you have to tell yourself is this - Monchi is new and has a plan & EDF is new and has a plan. You say that come July 1, we will retool with players that fit both Monchi and EDF's plans and we will be better because of it.
No matter how you cut it, if you play an aggressive press, you play a high line and it's extremely important the defenders are fast and comfortable defending wide open spaces potentially 1v1. We seen enough last year of him in a back four. He's not quick enough to react and it won't work.
Better than last year? I'm not so sure let's see what happens. This is the thing. Last year we finished 2nd with more points than any Roma team ever. We lost our coach who was a major reason for that. We sold Salah, I get it we had ffp to consider but lets not kid ourselves and think we are going to easily replace him. People can argue that we'll find somebody that fit's EDF system better, but I'm sorry, Salah is an incredibly talented player and if EDF couldn't figure out how to use them.. well??? Now we sold off our best CB that is just hitting his prime. Is replacing him with a guy that's 20 making us better? Maybe, if we think Mareno is going to start, then I have to ask is Moreno an upgrade to Manolas. I'm not so sure he is now he has to learn a new team, league and language. Let me say, I'm not saying we are certainly going to be worse, I'm just saying there are signs we very well could be worse this coming season. Maybe we need to take a step back in order to take 3 steps forward later.
Maybe but if our only CB returning next year is Rudiger and we are losing our starting GK, I'm not too optimistic for next year's defense.

Well, hell.. this day just keeps getting better. The 'New Roma' is starting to feel a lot like the 'Old Roma'.
Monchi: "We will not sell our best players, Roma is not a super market" *1 week later* Our best forward, Salah, and our best defender, Manolas, are sold. This guy is a bigger joke than Sabatini
Patience, maybe in his mind those guys aren't the best players for the new formation, the new coach. I'm sorry, I love Manolas' athleticism as much as anyone, but I never fully trusted him back there. It was going to take time to gel with a new coach anyways. Let's let him do it with the players he prefers in the locker room he prefers.

I wouldn't say Monchi is a joke or worse than Spalletti, I mean he hasn't even had a chance. I guess my issue is either sell Salah or Manolas. Maybe there was no convincing Salah to stay, I don't know. My issue won't be so much with the sale of Manolas as the rumored replacements. If it's one of these 20 year olds then I'll have an issue with the market. If we can get an experienced CB that fits with our system then I'll be fine. My understanding is Manolas was sold because he's constantly fighting with teammates. Now that we are selling Manolas there is no excuse to sell Paredes. If Monchi wants Seri so bad he should have the cash now.
