Monarchs beat Seattle Jr 4-1 after a lightning delay in the second half. I had the privilege of meeting a fellow BSer face to face for the first time, but I always forget his handle here.
Game report It is worth noting that the Sounders 2 were playing without a bunch of regulars, and I think there were some academy players in the lineup/bench.
Watched the first half and the highlights. I still find it interesting the different styles of play between the Monarch regulars and the RSL players that are given time with the Monarchs. The Monarchs play a much more team oriented style on offense compared to the RSL players who play a more individual/one on one style. I find it interesting to say the least.
Here's a view of the Monarchs v S2 game from the Seattle pov. Sounds like they're pretty happy with how an academy heavy team did.
It's not surprising though. You see it in the senior team games all the time. Plenty of opportunities for a simple pass to the side for a much better shot, but everyone wants to take it themselves.
I didn't know where to post this, but the Monarchs thread looks like the best fit. The Las Vegas City Council approved a new USL franchise today, to begin play in 2018. So, the Monarchs will have another "close-by" team to play. They will play at Cashman Field, which might be the worst soccer venue I've ever been to. I watched SJE and the cRapids in an exhibition there a couple of years ago and haven't been back for a soccer game there. Watching the Blitzz at Cottonwood High back in the day was a better game viewing experience.

Tonight's game against the visiting Roughnecks will be here at 7PM - Two reasons to watch: Rufio should be back Tulsa handed the Monarchs one of their two losses this season, so - revenge
2-0 win. I am not sure why the person who makes the Monarchs highlights - even just individual goals - insists on adding slo-mo and music.
It's the hip new thing to do. They even do it on the RSL side of things and I find it annoying. I'm more than happy to watch a full speed highlight followed by a slo-mo, but ditch the crappy music on top of it.

Monarchs with a workmen like win. Had a more than a few chances to put the game to bed but still came away with a solid win. I would be concerned that they are getting too used to winning and getting a little comfortable and coasting when they could be ratcheting back up the intensity. All in all they are fun to watch.
Monarchs give up two goals in the last 5 minutes, one in stoppage time to give away 3 points. It was well earned by San Antonio. They kept the monarchs on the back for that for most of the second-half after the goal by Bofo. For some reason they sat back after the goal and let San Antonio dictate the game. The goals were coming you could just feel it. San Antonio muscle them around the field for much of the game but the monarchs should have put it away. Both goals came off set pieces and free headers that had Connor sparrow unable to even make a play. Monarchs definitely need to get their act together and get back on the same page and playing like they were earlier in the year. It was my first game this year at the stadium and for five bucks it was a pretty fun night at the stadium loss excluded of course.
For a team at the top of the league, hearing that they tried to defend for most of the game is worrying. When you're as good as the monarchs have been, you should at least be going for a second or third goal before defending, especially at home. Glad to hear bofo scored at least.
I don't know if they were just sitting back and trying to defend or if it was simply San Antonio applying pressure that the monarchs were unable to break out from under. Either way both situations are troubling. Regardless they need to find the gear they were in earlier in the season.
No Sparrow, but still they got the penalty save . . . The monarchs' keepers seem to be taking the role of "Wall of the Wasatch in training" seriously.
