Kevin Baxter @kbaxter11 The #LAGalaxy have fired coach Curt Onalfo. Former Galaxy coach Sigi Schmid will take over, beginning with today's training session. 10:05 AM · Jul 27, 2017
Ah yes, I remember when DCU fired Onalfo midway through his first season too.... I suppose they could do worse that Sigi. I guess there are no hard feelings.
Also, not sure if this has been reported already. It seems Jonathan Dos Santos is joining the LA Galaxy.
It's harder to find a competent coach for MLS than a driver with a CDI and no DUI's for the AA bus trip.

The Nats game was postponed for rain. Now the Mystics game at the Phonebooth is being rain delayed too. There is rain leaking on the court. How many times has this happened at the Verizon Center? At least the Mystics won't have to deal with this for much longer.

So Drogba is playing for Phoenix in the USL? Got a tweet from the USL showing a Drogba free kick goal against Los Dos. This is like Warren Spahn at age 48 pitching in the Mexican League trying to make a comback to MLB.
LA gets a goal called back by VAR because of...something, I suppose, maybe? Kansas gets a penalty after their forward pretends to be shot by an invisible anti-aircraft cannon but VAR is ambivalent. No me gusta.

It just struck me VAR delays may be a scheme to stop play long enough to sneak in a mid game commercial, The water break same deal, good time for a Cerveza spot. 45+ minutes w/o a commercial must have the league's collective heads exploding
In the LA game, VAR was used to see Zardes use a handball to knock the ball down to his feet for the "goal." That's why he got a yellow after the review that wiped out the goal.
I didn't see that. Other commentators were someone used the studs on his boots to kick the GK. I didn't see that either.
The MLS website has a report on the use of VAR. The Zardes one is very tricky. It's only the last view that shows him using his hands on the ball. Given the traffic and general chaos in the area, the ref manning VAR really was paying attention. That was not an infraction you would catch in real time. Now, that makes the discussion of VAR philosophical -- in that how can you overturn a play that would have virtually impossible to see in real time? Doesn't that change the game substantially. For example, Maradonna's "Hand of God" would have been called back by VAR -- would that have been a good thing? As they say in the college exams, please discuss.
Calling back the "Hand of God" goal absolutely would have been a good thing, because everyone watching, in person or on TV, except for the referee saw it. To decide a massive match with a clearly illegitimate goal gives/gave the sport a black eye.
I missed that the Phonebooth could be getting a new name sponsor soon. Capital One has registered quite a few DC specific domains. It would be interesting to see the Bullets and Caps in the Capital Centre again.
