That game probably won't go down as the Boldonazo, but it should.

Panama has been knocking on the door for a while but kept falling just short (and yeah we could probably call these events "chokes"). Glad to see them finally get over the hump.

Let's not spoil the thread feeling sorry for the US soccer team. Couldn't care less about their faith. What Im enjoying is Messi hattrick and direct ticket to Russia. Also means Messi won't have to go and play two playoff games. Would have been a disaster for Barca!

When does Messi get presented with the 2017 Ballon d'Or?
(Asking for a friend who seemed to remember Penaldo winning a Ballon d'Or purely on the back of scoring 3-4 goals in a WC playoff against Sweden after winning diddley with his club that same year)

LOL....this might not be too far-fetched now. If Messi keeps on his scoring tear and CR7 keeps on firing blanks, this may happen. Long-shot, but could happen.

Messi should win based on Tuesday in Ecuador. Name one player this calendar year that literally willed their team to the most important victory in years.

85 minutes in and still at 0-0...
Good thing I'm not entirely wasting my time on this game.

Crazy day already, RM needed late goal to win, so did PSG, Juve lost at home, so did Dortmund, Chelsea lost to Crystal Palace!, and Arsenal lost to Watford, I'm sure there were other shockers I'm not naming.

Not sure it qualifies as a surprise when the team that's higher in the table wins at home as Watford did. :whistling:

They are playing really well but they were doing the same thing early in his first season too iirc before they went through a slump. Will see what happens by Christmas time when there is less preparation and recovery time.

Really hard to see them losing even one match between now and December. Maybe to Napoli but not domestically.

So after just 3 MDs we already know which two teams will advance from Madrid's group as well as who will finish 3rd. The only thing still unknown is who will take the group, but with the new CL seeding system winning your group doesn't really matter much.

Despite my post above^, Atletico could have one foot in the Europa League if they don't find a winner in the next 45 minutes against Qarabag! That would certainly be good news for Barca. :coffee:

Good news for Barca in UCL but I'm looking at things from a different angle. Atletico drawing 0-0 against a club from Azerbaijan four days after Barca drew with said Atletico has my head spinning a bit.

they do look good. and fun to watch.
but they might not have the depth to keep it up all season.

On the one hand, I, like many, tend to give Arsenal big team status when their play may not merit it. However, Watford was a point behind Arsenal when the match began, not higher in the table. They are currently 2 points higher, so they were a point behind when the match started.
