Reports suggest all USL Pro teams are ultimately expected to have an MLS affiliate.
You seem to think it's a bad thing, given how you keep dropping the "enjoy being a farm system for MLS" in threads as a retort. It's a proposal that hasn't been enacted, whose true logistics are unknown, whose long-term impact is uncertain, and, so, of course, asking a handful of people for their immediate reactions would be prudent.
Like you say it is only a proposal untill now, "My understanding is there are some talks, and they're very positive talks," Rochester Rhinos president Pat Ercoli told WYSL-AM this week. "We were told that there's something that will be in place for this next season, and obviously it'll be expanded upon in the future. ... Hopefully within several weeks, we'll be able to make that announcement."
The former was a tweak and the latter is true. We're not going to have this ********ing semantic argument again, are we? Because you can't bear the term "minor league," which does not only mean a baseball-like player ladder scenario? It just doesn't.
Exactly, the PASL is minor league and not a development circuit for the MISL, the Frontier League is minor league and not a farm league for the Major Leagues, the ABA is mi...actually, the ABA is a train wreck that derailed into the path of a 20-car pileup on the Autobahn.
So they can pay for the other 15 players? As opposed to the no players they're currently paying? This seems reasonable to you?
there is a big difference in being a farm system and having an affiliation with a MLS team, like been reported. Harrisburg have had an affiliation with Philadelphia Union for a couple years now. . Other teams have affiliations over the years; Crystal Palace Baltimore, St. Louis Lions and Celtic, Palmetto FC and Bradford City even the Rowdies have and affiliation with a team in Maine don't they? Each one of those are different. and what they offer one another is different. Without knowing all the details its pretty hard to make an informed decision either way. I can see it be great: a couple players on loan, a friendly, a couple extra USL players getting training with MLS after the USL season ends, Worse case would be rebranding established teams, MLS trying to dictate game day rosters, But USL went down that road in the late 90s and I would be surprised if they did avoid those same issue like the plague.
At minimum. if they want a full roster, they would be paying 21 guys. Oy! Not sure they could charge enough more for a "pro" game to cover those costs.
In the context of a "five players on loan" affiliation, it would be bad. If it meant a full-blown player development club (with all player expenses paid for by the MLS club), it could be a boon to the USL (see Minor League Baseball, nee the National Association). Obviously, MLS is nowhere near that flush with cash to try something like that now. But if MLS ever wanted to try it when/if the money ever came into place, it isn't something that should be dismissed out of hand as horrible.
Have those warm, goodwill Christmas feelings, do we? See my prior response if you don't understand the difference between bigotry and criticism.
No, I think you were pretty clear. At least man up to what you said instead of running like a coward and claiming the problem is that you were misunderstood. Being chickenshit is almost as bad as being a bigot.
don't USL and MLS already loan out players. I think it will be bigger than that. This will probably take effect 2014. So some teams who have higher aspirations could go to NASL.
Nuance is lost on people who want to make points and try to win arguments. The only reason the arguments get so heated here is because the stakes are so low.
Oh, please. I did not and am not running from anything. I said what I said and I meant what I said. So what? You obviously have a problem with it and obviously don't understand what bigotry is. Coming on here and attacking me with choice words and personal insults, it's seriously laughable from someone claiming to be on the side of righteousness. Bigotry is hatred and intolerance for another group of people. Wishing a group failure in their goal of proselytizing to convert more to their beliefs hardly falls under that definition. I did not say that organization has no right to believe what they do, that they should be outlawed, that we should discriminate against them, or that we need to beat the **** out of any member of their church. That would be bigotry. Disagreeing with what they believe and hoping their beliefs do not spread? Not bigotry. You do understand that simply not sharing someone's religious beliefs doesn't make you a bigot, right? You do understand that simply not wanting another religious groups beliefs to spread doesn't make you a bigot, right? If there was a group out there promoting the idea that 2+2=5 and that flying pink unicorns live in the clouds, I'm sure you would wish them all success in their quest to convince other people (including your children and our political leaders) of their beliefs, right? Of course not. You would not wish them success in their mission, you would wish them failure. Would that make you a bigot? According to your definition, it would. It's like a Democrat hearing that a Republican radio show is going off the air, and saying "good." Would that make him a bigot? I fight bigotry everywhere I see it. Unfortunately for you, you think that disagreeing with someone's religious beliefs is the equivalence of bigotry. It's what you do and how you treat another group of people that defines bigotry, not disagreement nor hoping their message fails.
Well we've already seen Victoria mention it earlier in the post. We've seen PDL teams move up in the past (Dayton recently) so if there were any that were thinking of it before, I would imagine that 5 less players to pay for, an MLS affiliation and the possibility of a more regional set up (and less travel costs to say Antigua) would be additional incentive?
Ignoring "farm system," loaned MLS players can really help USL Pro sides... Case in point: http://www.richmondkickers.com/home/360737.html Player on loan from DC United scores Championship-winning goal. To my knowledge, he played 1 game for DC before moving on from soccer.
