Well maybe, but we can hope for a miracle. He built a couple of really dangerous teams the past couple years.
NYCFC acquire an international roster spot from Colorado for $75k in allocation money.— NYCFC Nation ⭐ (@NYCFCNation) February 10, 2017
I would definitely be in favor of him, or someone like him, coming in here and taking over things. The problem is, if you see him as a replacement for Mike Burns, that isn't going to happen. The Krafts don't think Burns needs to be replaced. After all, we missed the playoffs on goal difference last year and he signed two players in the off-season, which is more than he's done in the last 5 transfer windows combined. For them to make a wholesale change, we need things to be like Christmas Eve 1989 in the Ceausescu household.
1. Doesn't it seem like int'l roster spots are selling REALLY cheaply? Selling an international roster spot should cost way more than this. It's not giving the competitor an additional roster spot, but it does allow them to fill an available spot with fewer restrictions, and with the NYCFC/Man City relationship, it seems like the club has enough connections to fill an entire roster with inexpensive, non-domestic players. 2. I'm glad we're seeing the actual selling price of this transaction. Hate reading about MLS trades involving "unspecified" amounts of money.
After a little bit of time, we'll have a better understanding of just how much those things are worth. I've been watching MLS since day one and I couldn't guess how much an international roster spot has been worth in the past (other than it varies over time). There's always been an unannounced worth to them, so I figure 75K must not be too far off the value. That's not a lot of money in the grand scheme of things. Remember...this isn't a player. It's just a roster designation. There are players out there that go for 100K, 500K, 1M, 10M+ in transfer fees. So to pay 75K for a roster designation , on top of which, you have to acquire the actual player. For instance, Leeds might pay Nottingham 300K as a transfer fee for a player and you might think "decent Championship-level player" at that fee. But if what if Leeds also had to pay an additional 75K to acquire a roster designation spot just to sign that player. That's a big chunk of their original outlay. Which is why I think 75K sounds about right. But like I said, they've never announced monetary values to these types of deals before, so we have no base of reference to work with. After about a year (I think) we'll have a better base line to work with.
