so are we now going with Saint Louis FC into the next level (like FCC did)? Blue and green? or adding red?
I'd like to see the team go for a more distinctive look (well, distinctive by MLS standards). I'd like a predominantly white uniform with red, yellow, and blue stripes across the mid-section...kinda like Sampdoria has in Serie A. I've also mentioned a few times on threads here that I always liked the uniforms the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers wore when they were in the NASL. Something along those lines incorporating the colors of the St. Louis city flag would be different than solid colors or vertical stripes. When you're one of 28 teams in a pro league, I think you need something different to distinguish yourself from just 'another professional sports team'. OR a red, yellow, and blue stripe running from the shoulder to the hem of the shorts, similar to what the USMNT wore at the 2006 World Cup. OR a checkerboard block design (a nod to the city's ties with Ralson-Purina) across the mid-section in yellow and red with blue numbers and letters, or blue and yellow checks with red numbers and letters. On the back of the jersey, put the city flag on the neck above the player's name. I think Chicago (city flag) and New England (Bunker Hill flag) do this. New York City has its city flag on the sleeve (I think).
I came across this article yesterday about possible names for the new St. Louis club. I liked the idea for the "St. Louis Legacy FC". So here's my idea for the crest.
You all may be already aware of this, but there is a survey on the St. Louis MLS site for people to suggest team names. https://mls4thelou.com/team-name-survey/ One I had thought of is Gateway FC or Gateway City FC.
I really hope they don't go with any form of St. Louis SC, FC, AC or any of those stupid collective nouns Clash, Fusion, Courage, Pride, etc. Have some character. Standout. St. Louis has a huge Irish population. I'd go with St. Louis Shamrocks but I'd be happy with strong French, German, Italian I'd be ok with something regarding Three Flags, Olympic, 1764, or Crusaders. Though that last one will never fly in this PC world
Not that I disagree but that doesn't leave many options. If they don't go with a traditional St. Louis FC, etc or a collective noun...what options are left?
Just thinking of river inspired names due to St. Louis being an important port city. St. Louis Two Rivers St. Louis Merge St. Louis Confluence
Give some examples. You want things like Bulldogs, Tigers, Indians, etc? It is very difficult to come up with names these days that aren't either too boring/traditional, too women's team sounding (collective nouns) or too cheesy American sounding like Bobcats.
I am asking for specific names you want. I understand the concept You make a demand/suggestion like this then you should throw out some options. You may not like the other options but plural noun names often suffer from the very cheesy American pro sports names disease.
WTF? I did. I listed at least 4 and said I was open to other strong ethnic names BTW, St. Louis has 3 rivers, not 2
your post above where you give a couple suggestions was edited after I replied. Those were not in there when I quoted your post. Olympic goes against your own suggestion of no collective nouns. Doesn't it?
I submitted my vote for Confluence; I've been hoping for that name since the Cooper days. As I typed my answer out, though, their mention of "AC Milan" as a "traditional" name made me think that "Internacional St. Louis" wouldn't be awful either. Lord knows STL has a very international background, including a strong Italian presence. (Screw Inter Miami) =edit= Seeing on Twitter the mentions of "Olympic" and "City" as well. Not my favs, but I'd definitely be cool with them too.
I would personally rather not have 2 "Inter's" enter the league back to back like we had 2 "United's" enter the same year. I think we need some variety in the names. I would also prefer not another "city". I said it in another thread...it doesn't really matter what people vote for or say, I am pretty confident it will be St. Louis FC in the end. How about just the "Saints"? St. Louis Saints?
