Watching the hilites of Seattle phila at the HT break. #3 was showing up big as a blocker in the box for Seattle. Couldn't figure out who it was. Looked up the lineup and I"ll be darned, somebody set the alarm clock and Schmetzer got woke to Campbell. Smell the coffee Schmetz.
Union 0-0 Sounders: Sounders' grit stymies the Union's system. Most impressive, though, was that the Union had a whopping 68% possession and had a 6/1 shots on target advantage. They did it with some B2/B3 players, college players, a couple of academy kids, and some nondescript South Americans. Credit to the owner for investing in the academy and for letting Curtin grow in the job. And the new Sporting Director, Tanner, has taken things to the next level by shrewd pickups and by the system of play he has insisted on. Maybe he can be the Monchi of MLS.
He should be among the January camp call ups based on how he's performing so far in MLS... Memo Rodriguez Miles Robinson James Sands Paxton Pomykal Brenden Aaronson Jeremy Ebobisse Jackson Yueill Julian Araujo Sebastian Saucedo? Maybe Chris Mueller? Kyle Duncan, John Nelson, or DeJuan Jones at left back? Hopefully Jesus Ferreira will have his citizenship by then... Not sure how he's doing but I'd call in Kelyn Rowe How has Djordje Mihailovic looked? Reggie Cannon? Guys who were called in last time and are relatively young like Roldan, Long, Zimmerman, etc. Even Lletget although he seems to be underperforming. So many young players are doing well in MLS, Berhalter should look at as many of them as possible in January.
Clearly a cut above. Must have been a money thing for why the MLS teams passed. I’m sure he will get an offer from them if he keeps it up.
He needs to hit the weight room before he's ready for the senior NT, but I don't understand how Aaronson isn't good enough for the U-20 roster. Kid is arguably playing Marco Fabian out of a job.
History would suggest it is a talent evaluation thing. Remember when the league jammed Lee Nguyen for playing abroad with a $40k contract and Vancouver passed on him?
Possibly but there’s so much more video available now compared to then. They could have also asked to do a trial with him training tho I’m sure he and his agent would have said no.

clearly talent evaluation in MLS is less than ideal in many situations.......these clubs are FAR from infallible when it comes to picking players...and even when they do have a good read on a player the multi-tiered roster rules....really lead to some head-scratching moves, imo.... Pierrot was starting and scoring as a striker in Belgium this season and no MLS team wanted him enough to get him from college....Khiry Shelton couldn't get on the field in NYCFC and now he's a Bundesliga player (as of today his club just got promoted)....many other examples too numerous to list....
Best of luck to Shelton, but he only played 21 minutes for Paederborn in 2. Bl. Certainly injury played a part but have to wonder how he fits in plans for 1.Bl. Maybe as late sub or maybe he is loaned out.
Mueller and Amaya starting for the next game! Unfortunately can’t watch but hope they have good games
he's only been healthy since March.... regardless of whether he plays for Paderborn or not - its still great news for him that his club got promoted. I think he should stay there and try to make it there. being a 2BL isn't going to advance his career - as 5 or so american attackers doing well in 2BL this season can tell you....
The thing about Kiesewetter is that one of the big question marks about USL success translating to higher is answered. We know he's athletic enough, probably for the international level, even. It's a matter of the rest of it.
This is just false. Vancouver signed Nguyen after acquiring him via weighted lottery. Then Nguyen used the word "f*g" on Twitter right before the season began, and they cut him days later (while denying that was why). And he was picked up by New England almost immediately. Thoughts from ATL-NYRB Miles Robinson is a monster defender. Nagbe is meh. Shea has come on and been outstanding at left back. Sean Davis is underrated. Harsh red card to Tim Parker.
Frank deBoer doesn't look like a very good coach. This team should be running roughshod over MLS. Instead, they grind out 1-0's. In this case, looking like a 1-0 defeat... I'll tell you what, I'm glad we have Almeyda. And I imagine his time in MLS might make him a USMNT candidate in 4 years...
I have always defended Nagbe, and though he wasn't horrible, seemed out of the game somewhat. I still like Shea for the nats. He has speed and not a bad cross. Hope his time hasn't passed him by.
