Lewis is an interesting player. I like his game. Nice pace and skill cutting inside on his right foot at LW. If he had gotten some more playing time with NYCFC earlier this season, I think he would've made the U-20 WC team.
I'm not really concerned about whether he's classified as a wingback or midfielder; I just thought it was interesting (as someone who doesn't follow RBNY closely) that he was playing out wide. I don't think he's been bad, but hasn't been as involved as the guys playing more centrally (Klestjan, Davis, and Felipe).
As I said the 3-4(D)-3 does not have wingbacks. The back 3 is typically a center sweeper and a left and right fullback! It is a throwback to Van Gaal's Ajax of the '90s and Cruyff's Barca with Pep at the base!
Toronto's lineup tday includes Canadians and Yanks as foll: ------------------------gk Irwin ---------zavaleta----------hagglund!-------x ---Edwards-----Delgado--Cheyrou---------x--------x -------------------------chapman----x
I hope they aren't bringing him back too soon. I'd like to see him get stronger first. You liked him early on, I didn't, he got a lot better. I'm uneasy about Mavinga. Think Morrow would do better there on the left. Also, Delgado needs a national team call up really badly to improve his game. I'm peeved at Arena for not calling him up earlier. He's kind of getting stuck in the tire tracks in Toronto if you know what I mean.?
You're going off what the MLS site shows but that's often not the best idea when something new/different is happening... The average positions in reality: So here were the average positions for the Red Bulls starting XI today. You're guess of a formation is as good as mine. 3-1-5-1? #MINvNY pic.twitter.com/kNpxHctPRD— Ben Baer (@BenBaer89) July 22, 2017
Yes, and he has shown improvement as the season has gone on - much better than I expected. He may even be able to hold off Sheannon Williams from getting his starting slot back.
San Jose have been dominating seattle in their house, and are raelly unforunate to not be up at least one. Yueill is really coming into his own. Lima with a nice shot that Frei had to do well with
I like Roldan more than Acosta at the international level right now. Both of them are a bit lost when it comes to movement and showing for the ball but Roldan is much better with being physical and dealing with physicality from opponents. But Acosta seems to be a great partner for Bradley at the moment, whcih means he's got a place with the A-team.
It also looked like he should have had an assist, but Jones shanked the sitter off his good low cross. I've read articles about how Roldan's experience with the national team and seeing how close he is to being part of something bigger now is going to be a big motivator for him when it comes to playing in MLS from that point fw. He already was arguably Seattle's best player. I wonder what he could be now if he brings that marauding and harrying style on a more consistent basis. The dismissing of Roldan by some here on the basis of one game, which was his debut, where he was advised to play simply, and did more than fine in that role; were next level foolish and that will be proven over time if Roldan stays healthy and Bruce actually gives him the opportunities he deserves. But some gotta overreact or work their agendas I guess. The fact that he, Miazga, and Hamid were the 3 players (other than technically Johnson) who received the least time in camp was a real screw-up on Bruce's part. They were 3 of the top 4 or so guys we needed to see the most, and they only played a whole 1 game each. That's nothing to draw conclusions off.
