The Athletic: Sources: LA Galaxy to hire Caleb Porter as next head coach Porter will also face challenges in ... getting more from the Galaxy’s academy, which has yet to pump players into the first team despite its location in a soccer hotbed. Porter in Portland was probably the one coach who was even less on board the “play your kids” movement than recent Galaxy coaches have been. On the other hand, Portland is the second smallest homegrown territory in MLS so at the opposite end of the spectrum from LA... Regarding the reports today of Caleb Porter to the Galaxy... I was told by one source late last week that #CrewSC weren’t thrilled with Porter or Josh Wolff and were looking for more pedigree in the next manager. Working on getting more info.— Patrick Murphy (@_Pat_Murphy) December 11, 2018 Porter good enough for LA but not for Columbus? LA Galaxy name Dennis te Kloese General Manager The LA Galaxy announced today that the club has hired Dennis te Kloese as General Manager. Te Kloese, who joins after serving as the director of national teams for the Mexican Football Federation, will oversee all aspects of LA Galaxy soccer operations, including first-team, LA Galaxy II and LA Galaxy Academy decisions. The Dutchman will lead the search for the team’s next head coach.

Some more #MLS news: Hearing Weston FC technical director Victor Pastora and former RSL star Javi Morales are set to join Inter Miami academy in the coming weeks. #InterMiamiCF— Paul Tenorio (@PaulTenorio) December 11, 2018 Dennis te Kloese says one of his highest priorities is creating a better link between the Galaxy's first team, second team, and the academy. He says there is a need for a "local identity" in the squad.— Adam Serrano (@AdamSerrano) December 11, 2018
Chivas USA's academy was the one thing they did right. Their academy was always one of the top teams among MLS' academies.
And I was shocked that the incoming LAFC ownership didn't take over the Chivas USA academy - which continued for half a year (to the end of the DA season) after the MLS team folded. The Chivas USA academy system was stocked with talent.
Per a league source: Luiz Muzzi is the one making recent roster decisions for Orlando City. Club has not announced him yet, but he's the one working on these decisions. #OCSC— Jordan Culver (@JordanCulver) December 12, 2018 but wait - he’s also - according to #FCDallas - still under their employment and directly involved in their roster decisions. 🧐 who’s getting jobbed here? https://t.co/rub7s5OZPC— 3rd Degree (@3rdDegreeNet) December 12, 2018 wat

Report: Marcelo Bielsa lined up by Atlanta United A report from Paul Newberry of the Associated Press claims that Atlanta United want one of Marcelo Bielsa or Guillermo Barros Schelotto to take over from outgoing head coach Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino. Sampaoli's agent misses Atlanta trip, but there's still contact CBS Sports reported last weekend that Jorge Sampoali's agent was set to meet with Atlanta United on Sunday, the day after the club won MLS Cup 2018. But sources tell CBS Sports that the agent did not end up making the trip, and an associate of his was in Atlanta in his place. Atlanta United President Eales Responds To Bielsa Rumors Atlanta chief Eales would not be drawn on any alleged interest in Bielsa, who remains in a job at Elland Road, but he acknowledged that the new man in charge will have to entertain the team's fans. "I may have missed something, but I thought [Bielsa] was at Leeds," Eales told Omnisport. "I would say that Marcelo Bielsa is incredible. "I had Mauricio Pochettino when I was at Tottenham and that Newell's Old Boys tree that's come from Bielsa is pretty incredible. He's got a lot of people and a lot of coaches who have been inspired by him. "The reality is we've got a style of play in Atlanta where we score the most goals in the league, we were title winners this year and we play an exciting, attractive style. "I think it's important that the coach who comes in has a similar pedigree of playing that way. That, for us, is the most important thing." Boca Juniors coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto and former Argentina boss Jorge Sampaoli have also been touted and Eales believes Atlanta are recruiting from a position of strength.

A source close to the negotiations confirms @PaulTenorio's story that Caleb Porter is no longer a candidate for the vacant @LAGalaxy coaching job. Apparently new GM Dennis te Kloese didn't feel Porter was the right fit for the club.— Kevin Baxter 🇺🇦🏳️🌈 (@kbaxter11) December 14, 2018
Wonder which side is spinning... Despite the differing narratives out there, I can reinforce my earlier reporting via multiple sources: The Galaxy offered Porter the job. If you want to build a legacy á la Vermes, take the Crew job. If you want to roll the dice on hitting it big with all the eyes on you, possibly opening up doors around the world, but at the risk of crashing and burning, take the Galaxy job. One's not better than the other. But one has the potential of being much more long term than the other.
