I really wish I were the kind of guy who liked to gloat. Then, I would go find all the posts that attacked me calling him clueless about midway through his first season in NYC. I guess it's enough that more people are joining the righteous in recognizing that Kreis not a savior. He's not even a decent caretaker. "Wingert is a guy you build a team around" . Yeah, he said that.
I don't think Lagerway had much input in Seattle until after Sigi left. Even then, Hanauer is a very hands on owner thanks to his time as GM, so I'm still not sure how much input he has. When Lagerway was in RSL, he seemed to prefer Central and South Americans, but in Seattle, they are still bringing in a lot of Europeans, which is Sigi's and Adrian's preference.
How hard are you looking for excuses? Orlando let him run off all of their DPs. Look at the hot garbage he brought into NYC when he got his way. Your point #1 is absolutely true, but stops short of being comprehensive. He doesn't know how to get respect from any player. That's why he always grasps back at old RSL guys. He got his way in the locker room there because his former teammates enforced his authority. Without that, he might be the greatest tactician in the world, but he doesn't know how to be both liked and respected. He's destroyed every lockerroom he's been in charge of since leaving RSL.
^^^Guy gets joke.. Eta: wait, maybe he doesn't. After further research, you're one of the bad guys. And while we're at it, let's put our mod on blast, too Prior posts that I can't figure out how to quote right that explain he's talking about Orlando being better. (Move your mouse to reveal the content) Prior posts that I can't figure out how to quote right that explain he's talking about Orlando being better. (open) Prior posts that I can't figure out how to quote right that explain he's talking about Orlando being better. (close) ↑ He wasn't hired to be an average coach. I mean, they were outperformed by Orlando. Of course. Orlando has better players.
You also forgot drafting a player (Geoff John) in the expansion draft that wasn't able to actually play and in a position that would be a need as well. He just is a poor man manager and doesn't do enough to earn players respect. People need to remember that CFG spent a lot of money and time on him to learn the system they wanted him to play, he then goes out and doesn't implement ANYTHING they wanted plus shit on everyone in the locker room that wasn't one of his guys and people wonder why the team pulled the plug?
If Kreis got the similar results to Tata last year he'd have been given another year with NYCFC. He didn't and coupled with the reasons already stated he was let go and honestly can anyone argue against what NYCFC did? I mean it wasn't until Vieira installed the tactics that CFG wanted in the first place that the team started to turn things around.
Yeah I was surprised he took the Orlando job, too. I think Alexis Mendoza, most recently of Independiente del Valle and Atletico Junior, would be a good hire for them.
Oh trust me I don't disagree with any of that. You're absolutely right. I'm just saying digging up John struck me as a little odd.
All of those things were absolutely true in season one. You can can also find plenty of posts from me stating that Kreis was doing tactically naive things in NYCFC, and that he totally wasted the year he had onboard with NYCFC before season one started.
I'd say he'd definitely trade places with Stahre or Hudson right about now. Wow...........Orlando City has been a train wreck since entering MLS. Remember when they boasted about not being content with just being in the league, and that they were coming to win trophies??? This should be the next domino to fall there. The GM brought in all of the players on the roster. Berhalter sure fleeced them for Meram btw...........
Not to mention the people saying Kreis was a mismatch for NYCFC because he was a small market coach that didn’t have experience working with big money players.
You are absolutely right and I was absolutely wrong. I guess Orlando has invested too much in its stadium to let it become a synonym for mediocrity.
I was taking the piss out of you. No worries. I would never question your tactical acumen. I’m sure you’d make a great MLS manager. In the western conference.
Well, let's not forget his 1st mistake, right out of the gate with NYCFC … erroneously picking the 1st spot in the discovery draft when he meant to take the 1st spot in the SUPERdraft. How little did we know that would be the beginning of the end to his MLS head coaching career.
You’re saying those people were right? Because they were right, right? They just left out that he also wasn’t adept at working with medium and smalll money players, either.
It'll be interesting to see who Orlando hires. The roster has talent, though the players also have histories of being injured, inconsistent play, etc. Would Porter want to coach there? I'm not sure he would. He had a great situation in Portland with an owner and GM that realistic expectations and supported him. Not sure that is the case in Orlando. Maybe they fly to Argentina with bags full of cash and try to convince GBS to take the reigns? Do they make a call to Bruce Arena? Would Arena even want this job? He had close to total control/say when he was with the Galaxy. Do they wait until El Tri are done in Russia and make a run at Osorio? What about Preki? Who knows what direction they go in. Where does Kreis go from here?
Orlando should go to South America to find a coach imo. Kreis has looked horrible the last few years and should probably build his rep back in USL. I hear Vegas might be hiring soon.
So, with Kreis being fired, that is 14 teams that have fired (replaced) 20 different non-interim coaches since Jim Curtin took charge of the Union. The Union have 1 away play-off game in that period. Yay Union! (?)
I want to point out that I was one of only five people who voted for Kreis in this poll. I've been wondering how long it was going to take people to catch onto the fact that Kreis just isn't that good of a coach. His only trophy was MLS Cup 2009, which included one legit series win and two penalty kick shootouts. He had what was recognized to be the most talented roster in the league at the time and never won anything else. He then went to NYC and Orlando, and did basically nothing at either club.
