Equal pay for equal work means that there are a dozen or so High School Freshmen in Texas who deserve big fat raises. Girl Power!!! http://www.cbssports.com/soccer/new...-the-u-s-womens-national-team-in-a-scrimmage/
This isn't news. The USWNT has been playing against boys teams forever, and losing consistently once the physical discrepancy between them and the boys is too large. Used to be the Bradenton teams. Now it's just random academy teams. Here's me two years ago:
But as long as you asked: Some guy in England saw a Russian T54 tank (from Iraq) on eBay, and worked out a deal with the owner. He swapped an Army lorry and an Abbott self propelled gun because, hey, if you collect this shit that's what you do, right? So he gets it home, starts tearing into the rebuild, cracks open the gas tank and finds five gold bars, worth two million pounds. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...r-finds-2million-worth-gold-bullion-tank.html Stolen from Kuwait? Looted from an Iraqi bank vault? Either way, the original owners managed to dodge the A 10 Warthogs, unlike this poor bastard
Kills me that people still don't understand the level difference between mens and women's sports. Being from Tennessee people used say all the time that back in UT women's basketball prime they would beat the mens team. They wouldn't have even scored a single point. There isn't a mens college team in the country they could have beaten.
A single point is a little extreme. But yeah, the men would win by pretty much whatever margin they chose. When I lived in Wilmington, N.C., I was playing pickup ball on the UNCW campus. Five women showed up and said they had next. My team won and kept the court, and they all seemed a little surprised to be facing a bunch of women. I recognized them -- basically, the five best players on the UNCW women's team. We won, but it was close. I had to tell my teammates to get out on their best perimeter shooter, who was killing us early. I also got knocked down on a pick. Oops. A fundamentally sound women's basketball team will set up some screens, make sharp passes and get people open every now and then, and they'll hit a couple of shots. They just won't be able to defend or get any rebounds that don't come right to them.
Ok, they may score from the free throw line. I feel strongly that not very many women's teams could score a single point from the field against most top level DI men's teams. In your example you were a bunch of guys that didn't play college level basketball. Top level DI men's basketball players are almost all athletic freaks. When I was in 7th grade we played the high school varsity girls team (12 year olds against 17-18 year olds) and we beat them very very easily. The level is just not even close. If you played boys high school varsity against girls high school varsity it would be brutal. That all said...there is nothing wrong with the level being so different. It doesn't mean boys are more important than girls. Just means I have no patience for people that don't understand the athletic level difference between girls and boys.
Oh, I agree with your basic point. That's one of the reasons I found the initial article Bill linked here so ridiculous. But I do think if UConn or South Carolina's women played a typical D1 men's team, they'd be able to run a few trick plays or hit the occasional tough shot. If it were UConn men vs. UConn women, I'd guess 99-10 or so.
Or you could just move along and save us all the pain of dealing with another nagging BS poster. If you aren't interested then just don't bother posting. Simple idea yet so difficult for so many.
No, @superdave is right. This discussion really should be demoted to the general board. (Or maybe the under-used youth and development board.)
I said this when I brought it up in the news thread a few days ago. I was surprised they lost to an u-15 mls academy side. Those teams are sometimes filled with 13-14 year olds. Not everyone is 15. The scoreline did not look close.
The USWNT isn't as strong as it used to be, not only compared to the opposition but also in absolute terms -- in large part because the roster restrictions in the last CBA mostly froze out a whole generation of players. Currently the roster is a mixture of aging veterans and teenagers, and not much in between.
