Week 8 was something! The Union, Quakes, Fire and LAFC opened cans of whoop a$$ on their opponents at home. Orlando left it late to squeak one out against the caps. Robles let in an uncharacteristic howler to give the Revs a home win & a shot on goal. Zlatan is MLS. Portland finally won a game. FCD played the counter to perfection at the Benz. The Pozuelo show is turning into a BMO Field hit parade. DCU helped to cool off Dome's seat a little bit. On to week 9 and the last games of April! Remember to keep it neutral in the N&A game thread! All game times are Eastern. National TV games are noted, otherwise you can catch the game on your local affiliate or ESPN+. I didn't consider the schedule when I bought my Endgame tickets and I'll be 30 minutes in when the Rapids kickoff. Given how they're playing though, I think I made the right choice.
The Canadian Premier League kicks off this weekend. Home team first, times are ET. I don't know if there is any way to watch these games in the U.S. Saturday, April 27 Forge FC (Hamilton) v. York 9 FC (Toronto) 1:00 pm Sunday, April 28 Pacific FC (Langford, BC) v. HFX Wanderers FC (Halifax, NS) 7:00 pm Valour FC (Winnipeg), Cavalry FC (Calgary), and FC Edmonton will start in week 2. The spring CPL season runs until July 1. The Fall season runs July 6 to October 19. The two season winners will meet in a Final game in late October.
I attribute this to Sounders fans not being accustomed to getting off to good starts of the season in last 3 years! Many have LAFC engraved on MLS Cup--balderdash! It's a long season. If Seattle wins this weekend, many LAFC bandwagoners may be forced to pump the brakes (if only for a week ).
All CPL games will be streaming via OneSoccer. Eventually. They say that it will be available globally. I tried to sign up and got this message. They also say "We are working hard to be able to offer you the most competitive price." https://onesoccer.ca/ OneSoccer will also have the Canadian Championship games and Men's and Women's national team home matches.
It's time for your weekly MLR (from a Seawolves perspective) update!! This week was a mixed week for the Seawolves, the good news is that the Seawolves were able to come out on top over first place NOLA Gold. However, they failed to get 4 tries and only won the game by 1 point. As a result, they only closed the gap between them and NOLA by 3 points. The bad news is that the San Diego Legion put a beat down on the Glendale Raptors, got the full 5 points and, as a result, passed the Seawolves and moved into 2nd place thanks to Point Differential. In other playoff news, RUNY won their game and now have a 4 point lead over Glendale for the final playoff spot. Toronto also won their match (and got the full 5 points), so have closed the gap between them and RUNY to 9 points. With only 6 games left in the lead, their margin for error is slim. This week is another important week for playoff teams. RUNY visits Glendale for a game against the Raptors, a win by RUNY would pretty much put a nail in the coffin for Toronto's playoff chances and Glendale would be climbing into the coffin. A Glendale win could get them back into playoff position, but with their low point differential they'll need a full 5 points. Seattle travels to Toronto where Toronto is in dire need of a win. A failure to win could also end Toronto's playoff chances, while the Seawolves are hoping to take advantage of a NOLA bye week to catchup and possibly pass NOLA. San Diego is heading to Houston, which should result in them getting a full 5 points.
The Forge/York 9 match will also be on CBC, so you may be able to watch the game there if your cable company carries it.
Everybody's slobbering over LAFC right now, which is fair after they ran riot with both DCU and Seattle. But the standings say that they're in second place on PPG behind the Galaxy.
Too early? According to my numbers, we're almost 22% of the way through the season. And, amazingly, Colorado isn't yet toast!
3 more losses and they will pass my point of calling them toast (when their needed PPG average to make the average number of points for the 7th placed team in a 34 game season is higher than the level they've ever played for a season). @ATL, VAN, Salt Lake are their next 3 games. I doubt they'll lose all 3, a draw in one is likely, but its not out of the question that they'll be toast at the end of he game on May 11th. They were toast on June 1st last year. The only thing that saved them by beating it by a month was having the Seattle almost certain loss rescheduled for September.
There is sooooo much soccer tonight. Yay. And a game 7 in hockey. Kids, you're on your own...put yourself to bed.
Well, that explains that. Kings Coach Luke Walton accused of sexual assault in lawsuit https://www.washingtonpost.com/spor...lt-by-former-reporter/?utm_term=.558f885d424c Thx, Jay!
And continuing on from last week we have light blue against ... red? How will we know which team is which if they all use such different colors?

Given Howard (rightfully) got 3 extra games for insulting a fan this is a joke. I won't even compare it to the obvious outliers of Clark and Mullan.
Great fake shoe-tie by Nico Gaitan on the free kick, Sapong should’ve finished that one for 1-0 but blew it.
