I get all of this. But the way I look at a foul is that it is contact that deprives the other player of an advantage. I understand that may be a personal thing, but that's the way I see it. If I were a ref and a guy was clearly contacted in the box and it threw him off to where he was stumbled to a point that he couldn't catch the ball but managed to stay on his feet, I would call a penalty. Conversely, if a guy is contacted but it clearly has no effect on him, but he realizes "hmmmmm, I was touched" and then theatrically throws himself on the ground with the ball right there for him to play … then I wouldn't. But all of these situations are judgement calls. I just don't like the starting premise most times.
Who was that idiotic Red Bull defender who tried to dribble out of his box at the end of the game and almost gave my squad the draw?! Was that Long?
So, Rossi was rumored to be going to Fiorentina. Instead of Commisso ponying up for him though he chose to go a different route. And signed 36 year old Franck Ribery.
Remember a few weeks back when SJ was pushing for second? Well after tonight it looks like they'll be one point ahead of 8th place with one game in hand.
Stepping away from the play on the field in a way, MLS refs tonight have found a way to eject two men that either play or manage in our growing league. Known ballers. Not getting into the decisions but as Commish Garber and Co. speak of our league being one of the dominant leagues on the planet soon. We don't witness too often in other leagues a player of the caliber of Rooney and a manager like the Argie Almeyda get sent to the showers with such ease. Anyone that follows other leagues abroad over the years will see such ejections for reds on the field or dugout bullying of the 4th official. It happens. Does Garber witness tonight and fully understand what impact American refs have on the standing, the image, of MLS of those that even consider playing or coaching here in our nation. Our local media still shuns the beautiful game often and for men willing to play and coach here to be subjected to thin skinned American referees, it tanks MLS on a certain front.
What the f*** are you talking about? I've witnessed many a match in many leagues over the years turn into complete farces because of the players' conduct. If MLS is the one league where rules are actually enforced, I'm all for it.
he also got the heave ho, I believe he's going to get getting additional games off. touching the 4th official and not sure if he can/can't but he got into it with the security guard.
Replay of that filthy Vela goal... Carlos Vela is filthy 😱(via @MLS)pic.twitter.com/kq5URIjTuH— SportsCenter (@SportsCenter) August 22, 2019
I know it's 5-0 and there are only two minutes left in second half stoppage time, but LAFC might score again still, and not through any incompetency on the part of San Jose. Damn, but LAFC is in some amazing form.
The penalty against DC was perfectly fine. You cut behind an opponent like that trying to get into better defensive position and clip their foot in the process? Too bad.
