Random thing that people on here might enjoy. Was looking through the Union's USL roster trying to figure out who might come up next year. They have a 19 year old from Cameroon on loan. Looked up where he was on loan from and it was Nkufo Academy Sports in Cameroon. People who have been around here for a minute should be able to figure out the MLS connection.
Short drive from Philly.... It is pretty much the same exact distance from Talen Energy Stadium to Audi Field as it is from Villa Park to Stamford Bridge.
I'm not sure Kamara is going to fix what's ailing DCU at this juncture of the season. Their starting 11 is pretty good and on their day can compete with and beat most teams in the league. They lack depth though. Oh, and someone needs to wake Acosta up or ship his arse out of town ASAP. Hmmmm.....that Captain Morgan commercial with the DCU supporters.....after tonight's performance, it's going to take a whole liquor store full of Captain to make them feel better.
OK Sounders fans, I've been meaning to ask...what is 'Gorilla FC'? I notice that sign to the right of the goal on the right side of the screen. What's it all about? Is it some crazy promotion for Gorilla Glue? Is it a homage to James Taylor's top-selling album title from 1977? Or is it a nod to a popular attraction at the Seattle Zoo?
After a night of frivolity! FS1's soccer budget takes a hit in reparations to DC United? Sorry...couldn't resist.
I was very confused as to why I swore I saw someone wearing the Union logo in the SKC section. Upon further review it is a scarf that must have been one of those one off game designs when SKC played Philly (likely an Open Cup Final that I've wiped from memory).
It's sad when I'm actively pulling for the team I support to be combed and I was not disappointed walking out of the stadium in the end. That was lacrosse too. The front office hoped they could get away with just replacing the middle of the field from goal to goal. The middle of the field has come a long way very quickly and played pretty good. I hear the groundscrew wanted to replace the entire field, but.... In stadium I actually pondered if that could have reached the Potomac or if it would just fall in the Anacostia or Washington Channel. It was that kind of game. That's your fault for not paying attention to the Virginia plates slowing down and the Maryland plates speeding up.
Well this is something. Two of MLS' glamour teams getting tagged at home? Maybe the playoffs will be fascinating after all this year.
OK....I stand corrected https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019/08/04/goal-alejandro-bedoya-banks-opener-post-and?autoplay=true So Ale Bedoya grabbed a field-level mic after scoring his goal and shouted, live on national television:"HEY CONGRESS, DO SOMETHING. END GUN VIOLENCE NOW." My man. Need a lot more voices like his in pro sports. #DOOP #DCU pic.twitter.com/UrexCrVIx3— Pablo Iglesias Maurer (@MLSist) August 5, 2019 Jim Curtin on Alejandro Bedoya: “I’m on his side.” pic.twitter.com/vU2zI1gcuP— Joe Tansey (@JTansey90) August 5, 2019 Alejandro Bedoya: "Before I'm a soccer player, I'm a person" pic.twitter.com/Bc4TxnhVV2— Matthew De George (@sportsdoctormd) August 5, 2019 Quite a moment in the DC United/Philly Union MLS game. After scoring the 1st goal, Philly’s @AleBedoya17 ran to a mic on the side of the field & shouted:“Congress do something now. End gun violence, let’s go!”(Rare to see such a vocal political statement *during* a game) https://t.co/m7YwWjV2pq— Karen Travers (@karentravers) August 5, 2019 Reminder of what the same player wore after the Parkland shooting. pic.twitter.com/YJ4pwf1AFq— Dave Zeitlin (@DaveZeitlin) August 5, 2019
