It's All Star Week!!!! Week 20 was a doozy, full of combs, controversial calls and non-calls, the Revs & Quakes continuing to roll, and the East falling back into it's "leastern" conference self. As always game times are eastern. National TV games are noted, all other games can be seen on ESPN+. This is a neutral, safe, non rivalry place. I think the game was only streamed on twitter. I missed it. I was surprised it was over when I checked for the time. The Skills Challenge was streamed on MLS Soccer dot com.
The skills challenge was cool, but could use some tweaking for next year. I hope they look at what NHL does with their skill competition for ideas.
The russian judges made the skills event idiotic. If you are going to have judges, it needs to be fun. We needed afro-less El Pibe being petty.
I watched the thing on mute and was wasn't sure what the ******** was going on when all of a sudden shit was being judged after the fact.
This is Round 1 - Round 2 is the Open Cup final on the 7th, also at Allianz. It's going to be very interesting to see how Heath and Savarese play this. (Has this ever happened before when the same two clubs play each other in 72 hours in the same building?)
The Houston Dynamo once played at DC United on July 19 in the 2008 SuperLiga and then again at RFK on July 23 in the MLS regular season. The league match was originally scheduled for June 4 but was postponed due to severe weather. It was rescheduled for July 22 because the Dynamo would already be in town but that game got flooded out and it was played on July 23. Even the July 23 game had a lightning delay. It was the game that seemed cursed. So that would have been the same interval but the weather intervened and it didn't wind up 3 days apart, it was 4 days instead.
The USL-League Two and NPSL finals are also this weekend. Times are ET. NPSL championship Saturday, August 3 New York Cosmos B v. Miami FC 7:00 pm @Uniondale, NY https://www.npsl.com/ USL-League Two championship Saturday, August 3 Flint City Bucks v. Reading United AC 7:30 pm @flint, MI https://www.uslleaguetwo.com/ I believe both games can be streamed via the league websites:
Not that I know of in MLS, but I believe Man City v Tottenham in the Champions League then Premier League happened within 72 hours last spring.
The 1996 playoffs had a best-of-3 format with the higher seed hosting games 2 and 3, and both Western Conference first round series (Dallas-KC and LA-SJ) ended with games 2 and 3 in the same locations on Sept. 29 and Oct. 2. That was the only season something like that could happen in the playoffs, as the higher seed hosted games 1 and 3 in subsequent years that had a 3-game format. I'm pretty sure there have been some other immediate rematch situations involving the Open Cup over the years.
Starting lineup ------------Harris -------Biden------ Booker----Castro----Gillibrand---Yang Bennett----Gabbard---De Blasio---Inslee ----------------Don Lemon---------- My money's on Atletico.
First time I've sat down to watch the all-star game in years, and there's a delay. I may or may not turn back in later to see if it's back on.
