We're in the Penultimate week of the 2018 MLS season. We are treated to some midweek action, and then a full Sunday Funday of simultaneous games!!! There are also some great matchups with playoff implications as well. As always keep it neutral in the N&A game thread. All national TV games are noted, otherwise games can be seen on ESPN+. Let's get to it shall we? Wednesday October 17 ORL vs. SEA 7:30PM DCU vs. TFC 7:30PM VAN vs. SKC 10:00PM Thursday October 18 RSL vs. NER 9:00PM Sunday October 21 ATL vs. CHI 3:00PM DCU vs. NYC 3:00PM MTL vs. TFC 3:00PM ORL vs. CBS 3:00PM PHL vs. NYR 3:00PM FCD vs. SKC 5:00PM HOU vs. SEA 5:00PM LAX vs. VAN 5:00PM MNU vs. LAG 5:00PM POR vs. RSL 5:00PM SJE vs. COL 5:00PM
Will Orlando set the mark for most goals allowed in a season on Wednesday or Sunday? With no Ruidiaz and Lodeiro, Seattle doesn't pose much of a threat offensively, so the record might have to wait until Columbus.
Feel like we might get another rookie whistle this week or next. SJ-COL is an obvious candidate. Maybe NE-MTL on Decision Day, depending on how DC does this week. Hopefully there are fewer... complications...than yesterday.
It was inevitable that Stewart-Haas Racing was going to be ********ed by a caution. That was too easy to call.
I was about to say, no national games this week seemed a bit odd...those should be good games at least from the optics side of things (two full stadiums).
Surely they picked those games due to the crowd sizes and not due to any playoff implications. There are more enticing matchups on both sides of the ledger (DCU/NYCFC or PHI/NYRB at 3, POR/RSL or FCD/SKC at 5) than either of the chosen games.
The more people talk about development and plan for a national team, the more we have no idea how to find creative solutions. FIFA released their post WC report. https://www.fifa.com/worldcup/news/...p-publishes-2018-fifa-world-cup-russia-report Highlights. In 2010, there was a push to play like Spain. In this WC, it proved to not be as effective this WC. In 2014, there was a push to establish a system like Germany. A year ago, Germany won the Confederations Cup with their B team. This year, they lost in the group stage of the World Cup and are on the verge of "relegation" from the Nations League. Now, we are going to make a push for youth like France. Ignoring that their young players are some of the best players in the World. Maybe we should just find something that works and fit players into that system. If it's 4-4-2 with counter-attacks, so be it.
If I'm Brian Schmetzer or any other members of the Sounders brass, I'm really pissed off at the Uruguayan federation right now. They call Lodiero up, force him to fly across the Pacific for two away friendlies, thus causing him to miss a key match for his club.....AND DON"T USE HIM IN EITHER MATCH !!! And Gustav Svensson was not used in Sweden's friendly against Slovakia today, which means that he could have been released after last weekend's match against Russia and flown back to the USA in time for the Orlando match.
Even more disappointing was him staring down Delgado as if it was in any way Marky's fault. You bring a veteran like Yedlin in late to lock the game down, and that was very poor from him.
It might be better if he isn't called in for a while. I don't think the US gets better with him around. It doesn't even have to do with form or leadership. He is basically like a pair of ill fitting crutches. Sure they help when you sprained your ankle, but you hurt your back and arms because they don't fit and you might end up accidentally walking on your sprained ankle which makes the pain 100 times worse.
I'm too tactically ignorant to comment, but there seems to be a line of thinking that Twellman is wrong and that was, in fact, Delgado's man, hence Yedlin's reaction. Maybe maybe not. Or maybe some somewhere in between.
We do not deserve this team. Meet your new technical director & head coach @EricWynalda. #WeAreReady pic.twitter.com/KQ755zlQGh— Las Vegas Lights FC (@lvlightsfc) October 17, 2018 The even more surprising news. He wasn't first choice. Want to hear the truly crazy news about Las Vegas Lights FC hiring Eric Wynalda as their head coach? They tried to hire Landon Donovan first. Absolutely, positively serious on that.— Pablo Iglesias Maurer (@MLSist) October 17, 2018 To recap - Freddy Adu, Llamas, El Chelis, Crazy Promotions and that might be 5% of what is going on there.
Just came here to post this news. At what point do us BigSoccer posters pool our resources and buy a couple of season tickets just to see how long we can keep this ride going?
I already have bought 70 bucks worth of merchandise. There is no way this lasts for more than a couple more seasons. It's unsustainable with just the giveaways/antics, let alone the players and management. This is a combination of like 3-4 television shows, but real life.
