See, the Revs can't beat SKC unless they are without Gutierrez!

    (I'm kidding!)

Every team's missing guys which begs the question, have the revs played any games that count this year?

I'm wondering if it's possible to win the supporter's shield while not actually "deserving" any points.

Well, we all know that games in March and April don't count, so now that it's May, things start for real!

We need to find a striker thats a hybrid of Bunbury / Nemeth . All the hustle, with at least sooooooome technical ability. Bunbury has had a fire under him so far this season, although I think he could be LETHAL as 60th minute sub.

Kind of silly commentary IMO - like no one thought of holding out before?

There's also still an element of the unknown here - was this really all about just wanting a change of scenery, or was it at it's root, really about getting a raise? If it was the latter, then NE structured the deal to put a significant roadblock in the way of renegotiated contract - and ultimately has an effect of who the winner was in this affair. I don't think it's as cut and dried as Twellman suggests (but clearly it's a better situation for all parties involved).

If there's a message in this whole episode, it's that teams should respect and honestly try to honor veteran player's request to move elsewhere if that's truly what they want. If it's about money, then I'm not so sympathetic.

I dunno about Twellman's theory. Yes, Nguyen "started it," but not by holding out. By asking for a trade a long time ago. Right or wrong, the holdout was his attempt to get them to take his desires seriously, since it didn't seem like what he had done was going to work. And there have been lots of players who have wanted to move, but AFAIK, none as significant as Nguyen. Seth Sinovic realized he wasn't going to get a lot of PT with the Revs and they let him go, and he wound up in KC. Lots of marginal players have done this, but in most cases, it's a "meh" kind of deal. I don't know if we'll see another star do this going forward. This situation was unique in a lot of ways.

    - yes, I agree that Nguyen's holdout was necessary to light a fire under the Revs
    - the latest article about the anatomy of the deal on the MLS site sheds some light on what happened. Even though LN had requested a trade after 2017, it seemed like the Revs were insistent on at least finding out if there's a way it could work with Friedel's program. So, when he ended the holdout, they used the time to evaluate whether it could work and ended up deciding it couldn't - so they went and solicited offers and eventually made a deal. That explains why they announced earlier on that they weren't entertaining offers for him.
    - my sense is that in discussions with the team, LN probably said it wasn't about the money - but in the end, it was about the money. We'll see if he is willing to play out this contract or insists on a new one.
I don't think Sinovic is a good example. He was getting time and he would have been the starter. I think he must have done something to cross Nicol because he was a valuable player that was basically dumped.

Which MLS teams have underperformed and overperformed so far?

FWIW, I don't put a whole lot of stock in the "Expected Goals" stat.

Nevertheless, the Revs are 4th highest overachiever in the "Goals vs Expected Goals" chart, and the top overachiever in the "Goals Allowed vs Expected GA" chart, leading the author to say this:

Not only that but only the 11v11 games count. Throw out Montreal at home, doesn't count

We all know games in March and April don't count, so we are 0-0-1 with a -2 GD for the year. We need some time to gel.

Seems like he's been around forever - I was shocked to see he's *only* 32. Quite a transformation from that 18 y.o. kid. Wonder if he's bought any elephants lately?
