The 2018 MLS Cup playoffs continue this week with Leg 2 of the second round games. As always, game times are eastern and TV info is listed. Aggregate scoring is also listed next to each team. Keep it NEUTRAL here in the N&A game thread. Also, this is a game thread, not an attendance thread.............that info belongs here. With that: Thursday November 8 SEA (1) vs. POR (2) 10:30PM FS1 Sunday November 11 SKC (1) vs. RSL (1) 3:00PM ESPN ATL (1) vs. NYC (0) 5:30PM ESPN NYR (0) vs. CBS (1) 7:30PM FS1
******** MLS scheduling. Because SKC is the early game I have to be at work by 3 am to get off in time to make the game. I am NOT an early person.
With the FIFA break, it doesn't really matter. Plus it all stems from a car show or some such thing scheduled at Century Link on the weekend. Here it is - 9th through the 12th.
Sources: The LA Galaxy have "serious interest" in hiring Mexico director of national teams Dennis te Kloese as head of soccer operations. The sources also indicated it's highly unlikely that Bruce Arena will be hired in that role. https://t.co/s5jFXxyXtH— Sam Stejskal (@samstejskal) November 7, 2018 Really?! The guy who “ran” Chivas USA?! https://t.co/bUU2KbPJqD— Alicia Rodriguez (@soccermusings) November 7, 2018 What could possibly go wrong?
Why do they keep scheduling Sounders playoff games during choir practice? Everybody else plays on Sunday afternoon. Just why?
We have a lot of toast to enjoy between now and the end of the playoffs. The next toast thread can't start until at least February right? So, what do you have to do between now and then? Coach Kurt might need a Thanksgiving invite....
I'm not sure why they couldn't have the game on Sunday though? While the Event Center is certainly adjacent to the Clink, they seem to be only using a portion of one of the concourses (which will still be closed for Thursday's game). The auto show also ends at 6PM on Sunday, MLS could have given the Sounders/Timbers game the 7:30 slot and the overlap would have been minimal.. Impact from tearing down the exhibits also shouldn't be an issue since the Auto Show runs all day on Monday as well...
9:30 slot. If there were 4 games on Sunday Seattle/Portland would have gotten the last time slot 9:30pm (ET). Which is 7:30pm local time, is that what you're saying?
Kind of figured you meant local time. Do you think that more of the stadium would have been opened up if it was a Sunday game? More demand?
A thrilling 1-0 over the 21st-best team in Europe. The women are going to get smoked in France next summer, relatively speaking, and no one sees it coming.
They seem to have done better against the other top women's clubs in the last year or so.. They've definitely been caught and are no longer the best team by far, but based on their performance over the last year, I'm not sure it is as dire as you're making it?
I'm probably going to be proven wrong, but Sunday's seem to be better attended than midweek games.. It also would have kept the game in line with the scheduling for the other games.
I flew through Portland Airport this morning and there was quite a contingent of Portland fans in the terminal, both headed to Seattle for the game and flying elsewhere too, all decked out. Plus Alaska Airlines had made playoff scarves and were giving them out to people to wear, which was also very cool.
