Well, doesn't look like Atlanta is going to be terrible, so now the question becomes whether or not they can beat the MLS average attendance record this season. The Cosmos' record of 47,856 still seems safe, unless Atlanta starts selling out their new stadium once it opens.
It looked like only the upper deck in one of the end zones was closed. It surprises me that an upper deck in the end of a 55k stadium holds 10k. Almost a fifth of the seats are in that end zone upper deck?
This number for NYCFC perplexes me. I had been watching the TM page all week trying to sell my tickets, and they did not have many regular seats for sale, at least not any different from most other matches. They did have a MASSIVE amount of tickets for resale though, as many STH were trying to sell due to the weather. They also have a trade-in program, in which you can trade in your seats for tickets to a future game. I have no idea what metric they used for this one and why, but I don't think it was the simple tickets distributed model, because it just wouldn't add up compared to other games unless they held back a bunch more seats.
If you've never been in the upper deck of an old college football stadium, you'd be surprised. They also tend to be astonishingly steep.
2 games in and so far being an AUFC season ticket holder has been a great investment. I feel like a friggin kid again, and today got to share the fun with my daughter. First goal and celebration right in front of us! Thank you, Arthur Blank. Thank you.
Be careful. Remember how this ended for Arthur Blank's other team. Because, in the end, Arthur comes up blank.
I will gladly accept winning the conference and making it to the MLS Cup final! Thanks for the inspiration!
Are there any standards for what constitutes a "package"…half season speaks for itself but what about smaller packages…4 games…3…2…could you even somehow link single game advance purchases to produce "equivalents"… And we often correctly say that tickets sold/distributed is the same formula used to announce attendance in all team sports in AmeriCan…is the same true for season tickets…is the numerical base for teams in all sports here a combination of different packages…

I guess less than perfect weather effects the more "convenient" NY team as well? Not sure what all this means in the long term for NYC, but if this is the bottom that's still a pretty high floor. There's clear sustained interest in the team, and it feels as though their core fan base is a bit larger than the what the Red Bulls have, but I think the new car smell has worn off and its not likely to get much better than their opening season without another major signing. We gotta continue to monitor the-er-whatever their nickname is (Wikipedia says the Bronx Blues or the Pigeons? really?) to tell if they're about to hit a long term "normal" the way the red bulls have.
Pretty sure john strong on fs1 just said Seattle wasn't going to cap attendance at 40k this year. Can someone enlighten us?
Dirty little secret is that the Sounders haven't for years. They've been opening up new sections in the upper deck if they get close to a sell out.
Sounds like Seattle is afraid Atlanta is going to dethrone them as attendance champs. Has there been any other time in MLS history outside of the big 4th of July games back in the day, doubleheader games, or the first games in 1996 that 2 teams have had over 45k the same weekend?
