Ghana and USA were viewed as the rank outsiders in a group with 2 of the top teams in the world. Both have held their own and even had the lead for a time in their games. Even though we're a bit deflated now, we know we can compete and succeed with these guys. We got revenge on Ghana. Portugal gave us a small measure of payback tonight. Ghana did the same to Germany. Now is our chance to beat Germany for what happened in 1998 and 2002
I am going to boo the living hell out of Michael Bradley every single time he comes to KC for the rest of his career. That was flat bullshit on his part.
I don't get how you let someone behind you when you are playing prevent D. You should have been back around the 6 before Ronaldo hits that cross. No need for 3 CBs to be up that high.
Jurgen Klinsmann: Hey, Joachim, listen, I'm going to need that favor I asked for before. Joachim Löw: What favor, you sh*thead? My team is going all out to annihilate your team. No scoreline will be large enough.
I honestly don't know what to do with myself right now. Loss I'd be annoyed and go out and get dinner. Win I'd be ecstatic and go out and get dinner. I have no clue what I'm supposed to do when we were 5 seconds from advancing.
Well, was really hoping we could wrap it up today. The gf isn't going to be happy I'm glued to the tv on our anniversary.
After Italy lost to Costa Rica, the teams with the longest World Cup scoring streaks are now Uruguay and the United States at 8 straight games.
We were one bad defensive play away from being in a position to win the Group of Death. The United States was in a position to win the Group of Death. Wrap your head around that for a second, if you can. The difference between Belgium and potentially Algeria in the round of 16 was one defensive play away. Now, we'll probably play a snoozer 0-0 draw just to advance. Balls.
I saw something from the #USMNT that had never happened before. Then I saw something that had happened more times than I can count.— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) June 23, 2014 For all of my life following the #USMNT, the measure of heartbreak has outweighed the measure of joy. It did so again today.— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) June 23, 2014
If a genie had popped out of a bottle and offered you 4 points after two games, you'd have taken that deal in a second. THIS STILL FCUKING SUCKS!
It has to be said, that for many of those years we were very bad, barely competitive, so going behind first was usual and not winning was usual. So, not finding a win after 21 times going behind, no real surprise.
I haven't read anything - been opening the birthday gifts with my daughter. What a game! ESPN Instant Classic I am betting. Should be anyway. I can't believe how well Jurgen's young guys have done. Stunning. Yedlin was terrific. The second Portuguese goal was, of course, world class. But our nominal best player, Michael Bradley, turned the ball over when the half of the field he was facing was wide open to just push the ball wide. Instead he tried to knock the ball behind him and turn onto it, into traffic, and turned it over. That's it. Yedlin did great to kill the clock; Wondolowski did great to kill the clock; Bradley could have killed the game, but got fancy and turned it over. Damn.
