I still wish like hell he had come to DC. Our team is sub-mediocre, and unbelievably BORING to watch. Here's what makes games interesting 1. How many wondersaves will Bill Hamid make? 2. Will Luciano Acosta get ejected? That's it. That's the list. Having Mix would at least make us semi-interesting to watch.
Yeah, I think it's too bad he didn't find a good MLS home - he's a great sports personality and can be a good rah-rah guy. If he'd gotten the right spot it could have been a lot more fun.
It's not like he's dead ha. Good chance he ends up in MLS again at some point but maybe not on the 750k or whatever he was making
He's not dead, but I'm not long for this frickin' world laddie! I'm as close to North Korea as you can get in the lower 48...
BTW, Gotenborg are 10 (of 16) with 14 pts after 10 games. Next up, 1st place Norrkoping. 10th place but the table is stacked. Only 4 pts out of 3rd place (and Europa slot)

2nd place Norrkoping. Win could jump 11th place Gotenborg to 8th (Mix' club also have only played 10 games to most team's 12), depending on other results. 0-0 5 mins in fwiw.

A lot. Though how much "a lot" is would be conjecture. The MLS website & ESPN reported in March that his contract had been bought out, but it seems that they couldn't agree on the severance amount. Add to that, there doesn't seem to have been any other European interest, so the Swedes could have asked for better terms than the usual 50-50 split, since 50% of $750k is a lot of money for Swedish football, even for IFK. IIRC, when ESPN reported on the loan being agreed the term "minor relief" was being used WRT Mix's salary. Maybe IFK are paying only 25-33%.
#ifkgbg pic.twitter.com/8IcOozUYyS— IFK Göteborg (@IFKGoteborg) July 2, 2017
BTW, Goteborg are at 10th with 12 games played (most of rest have 13) 13 points off top slot, 13 points off bottom... That's pretty much the definition of "fair to middling..."
Gin I were a baron's heir And could I braid wi' gems your hair And make ye braw as ye are fair... I personally thought Mix had a higher upside. Count me surprised he did not fit in better in MLS. But at some point games prove quality.
True, but then he didn't pull up any trees on loan in Belgium either. Looking back, that was a warning sign. Scandinavian footy isn't bad and the country produces good players, but also a lot of 'tweeners; guys who are too good for Scandinavia, but then turn out to be not good enough for country X. Looks like MLS is yet another of those countries, which is good for American footy, though not for Mix. This is the key season for him. If he bounces back, he can still have a good career though not at the level people hoped for when he joined NYC. If no, he'll wind down his contract/take a payoff and bounce around Scandinavia/Greece/lower Eredivisie, getting paid but not playing at a meaningful level There are worse fates in life.
cubo torres couldnt get a game in mls the past 2 seasons...now hes back on top of the scoring charts. before this season...you couldve made the argument that cubo isnt good enough for MLS....(it wouldve been idiotic, mind you...but plenty would've made it/did make it) Mix is plenty good enough for MLS and so is Poku.... just because a player doesnt find success with a club....it doesnt mean they cant play in that league! its about opportunity and fit. another team didnt swoop in for mix cuz he stood his ground and wouldnt accept less money. and why should he have??? now its like mls is being passive aggressive against a player that wont take less money when thye werent even given much of an opportunity in the first place..... same reason roman torres wants to leave mls this summer despite the game winning goal in mls cup last year....mls plays hard ball with salaries. Pirlo was "unbenchable" during mix's time in NYC...therefore there wasnt much room for him on the field....not hard to understand. its not like Mix played horribly in MLS. viera had to play pirlo and didnt rate mix. now that Pirlo is on the bench NYC has won like 5 in a row...does that mean Pirlo isnt good enough for MLS? maybe NYC shouldve kept mix/poku instead of Pirlo???
Plenty good enough for MLS? Maybe Plenty good enough for MLS at $750k p.a.? No. Doesn't offer enough compared to other, cheaper options. Which is where your comment about MLS being hardballing tightwads comes in. MLS is a physical league, and the amount of travelling (in coach!!) requires a lot of stamina rather than finesse. That's not really Mix's game, and most other teams don't have free-spirited finesse players so you'd have to say that maybe he's not really suited to MLS - at this stage of his career.
