Let's keep Johnson and Cream out of our S****thorpe thread!!
Excellent! Worth repeating!
Although if Max found a spot there I could envision the following thread title:
"Saved at last! Make room for Max Cream in Scunthorpe!"
If there really is a god, this will happen.
Scored a second-half goal and missed the opening penalty in the shootout in Scunthorpe's win over Derby today. (5-5 final!)
wtf?! since when can we type scunthorpe?! thats shenannigans, we will type S*******horpe from here on out and give it its due diligence!
He missed the first penalty in the shootout as well.
Mike's goal starts at 0:36 quite a strike. Looking forward to Norwich in Sept.
Scored a goal today.
Was that Grella giving the assist around the 0:47 mark? That looked very nice as well.
I'm bummed Red Bulls couldn't go get him. I put him on par with Luke Rodgers who
did well here. Grella is a New York boy, with fiery personality which is great for the league
(we need more guys like him and Lenhart).
Oh well, maybe he'll be part of the Cosmos in 2014
Here is Grella's goal from Tuesday (the play starts around the 1:16 mark).
Playing time has been difficult for Grella to come by of late. He has only played in one league game since October 27th, getting a start on December 8th. He has consistently been an unused sub other wise. Grella has played 686 minutes so far this year playing in 12 games (8 starts) and has registered one goal in League One. Scunthorpe United are second to last in League One and are three points from safety.
Scunthorpe United has also been eliminated from all three domestic cup competitions. Grella got a start in their first round FA Cup loss on the road to League Two Gillingham, got the start in their only Football League Trophy match notching an assist against Notts County, and started both League Cup games. He scored a goal and missed a penalty in a shootout that Scunthorpe United eventually won in the first round on the road to Derby County. He went 79 minutes in a 2-1 loss to Norwich City in the second round.
I wonder how much of Grella's potential he threw away by staying in college for four years.
Did staying in college for 4 years make him a headcase?
Well, he did go to Duke.
Dude would take you to "pound camp" if he heard you make that assertion...
That's what I was thinking...
League 1 doesn't seem to agrrr with him. Maybe a return to League 2
The thing is Mike was an "unusual" NCAA product, because he actually had a decent amount of flair and skill. Euro passport or not, getting signed by Leeds straight out of college is nothing to sneeze that.
There were inferences out of England that he has favored a party lifestyle a bit too much, so I think a chance of scenery to somewhere like Denmark or Serie B might prove beneficial. Of course, he has to prove that he is a professional dedicated to his craft but leagues that don't launch the ball into the stratosphere on every other touch should be more suited toward his skills.
We've got to get that party animal Grella out of Scunthorpe for his own good. You realize how close he is to Pocklington? It's a miracle he's still alive. And don't get me started on Nettleham...
All one needs is a working tap and a few quid to settle the bill and arrange for a cab ride home.
I believe they have those in Italy and Denmark too. Even squid or whatever.
We're going down, folks, and we're taking Mikey with us.
He can always come home.... MLS
If he's willing to play for the MLS league minimum, then perhaps a team would give him a look.
Realistically if he's playing for Scunthorpe his wages are probably more than manageable for an MLS team.
Lee Nguyen was playing for about 45K last season I believe. Their backgrounds aren't exactly the same, but there are enough similarities that I figure Grella might be able to get something like that -- above league minimum, though not by miles.
