I'm not the OP, but I read this article too. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/david-...evaluated-mls-owners-committee-045846817.html
That article definitely does not make Garber sound very optimistic about the future of Beckham's Miami bid. It at the least lets us know that things really aren't progressing. Most of us already thought this.
the south florida market isnt just miami dade, but it IS the main draw. hundreds of events (sporting or otherwise) are held in Miami annually. some, like the Heat, through out a season and theyre doing just fine in the "tip" of this "pencil". i dont mind Swamp Rock stadium as a temporary home for MLS Miami but this team and the soccer fan base in dade would prefer this to be near its urban core as possible. otherwise why host or build anything under the miami brand name if were always having to cater to the whole of south florida? in that case why not just build every form of entertainment in some lots/acres out there in the suburbs, in the middle of broward county next to highways and family homes? that model isnt always the best.
If hardly anyone shows up to the stadium in the urban core (see earlier listed objections), which seems quite possible, than the team will fail. If Becks runs the Express Bus in from the north, then I'm in...otherwise, the team is passing on potentially half of its fan base. That doesn't seem like a good idea. This market is unlike any in the country. I've been to Century Link in Seattle, done the March to the Match (incredible)...no one is marching to the match in that neighborhood unless there's some massive gentrification/repurposing in the works. Don't hold your breath.
thats a lot of ifs. Miami is one of those cities experience gentrification at a rapid pace. eventually Overtown will experience the same. im sorry that location is too inconvenient for you. maybe in 10-15 years when things improve in the surrounding area youll feel safer visitng the stadium (much like AAA went through and now marlins park). the same exact thing was said about those locations. its better city planning to renovate and rebuild inside city limits. so until that happens, hard rock is a suitable temporary home.
I haven't followed lately but just wanting to know if Don Garber already announced his supposed "timeline" he gave Beckham? Or was that just more rhetoric?
Inter Community Trust has talked and will continue to talk to Tri-Rail about Express Service to and from matches on matchday, should Overtown/Downtown Miami become a reality. There is the newly developed Brightline as well, just not sure of cost effectiveness. But yes, at this point, the most obvious and more Tri-Counties central and existing renovated soccer-friendly stadium location is Hard Rock Stadium. Good post, @Strikermansteve.
Pretty sure no mods have rules against links. That wouldn't make sense. You cannot post an article in whole. That is all I know.
Thanks. Do you know what happens if he doesn't meet all requirements this year? Will the deal be off if he doesn't meet them? .
1. Agreed. The Upgraded Joe Robbie Stadium is a tremendous resource. It goes largely unused for a large portion of the MLS season so it seems silly to not use it. 2. While I agree that Hard Rock is a clear solution to this (provided Stephen Ross is the investor...otherwise the finances wouldn't make sense with the way revenue streams would flow) the mass transit to an overtown site isn't as complicated as you describe. Broward/Palm Beach fans could park at any tri rail station, take that to the airport, transfer to the metro rail to culmer and you are there. That isn't difficult. 3. Geography is tricky for sure. The Tampa Bay area has geography challenges too, as their population center is the actual Bay. In my opinion the mass transit solution for Florida based sports teams is unattainable. Floridians have been groomed to drive places. If there is a solution that enables drivers to attend events then that is the best way to get the most people to a game.
While I think that Hard Rock Stadium is probably the best solution at this time, it does have its problems. It can be downsized/right sized or whatever Garber wants to call it. However, the biggest problem it faces is scheduling in the football season. With Dolphins playing on Sundays and Hurricanes on Saturdays, it will be very hard to play games down the stretch. If they were to make the MLS playoffs, it becomes even more difficult.
Garber/MLS doesn't want to be out that far away from the city core, so its a non-starter. Becks would already have property locked down and construction started if he could go anywhere in the greater Metro area.
Cool! David Beckham's Miami investment group adds Todd Boehly - sources Beckham’s Miami MLS group adds L.A. Dodgers part-owner Todd Boehly
Thank God. Some news, and positive at that. The article is a bit delusional. They describe Todd Boehly as "another heavy hitter" implying they already have some on board. I'd say he's the first one involved. That is great. Hopefully it does something to spark some progress on the stadium plan and they can finally get this project off the ground.
https://www.socceramerica.com/artic...i-land-deal-gains-momentum.html?edition=17192 Report: Beckham Miami land deal gains momentum May 9th, 2017 10:24PM
This is the article in the link above http://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/community/miami-dade/article149488729.html This is very good news. However one part stands out " Even with the county land, the Beckham group still must win approval from Miami for the zoning changes needed to build the stadium. Some neighborhood groups oppose the construction. Current owners of Major League Soccer also must approve the agreement and formally allow Beckham to purchase an expansion franchise " So still more hurdles, however the MLS approval should happen. I can't imagine they would have spent so much time waiting around on this final investment only to say they don't approve the stadium plan.
No surprise here. Community opposition http://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/community/miami-dade/article150858572.html
it seems to be The rich neighborhood only, smsll opposition i hope, the commissioner is all for it thats a plus [emoji41]
It's the same group with the same gripe as 2015. I get that they might not like the parking plan of the stadium but please spare us "the meeting is happening too quickly" whine. There's one thing you can't accuse Becks of, and that's going too fast.
