Otherwise Silva's Miami FC would have started playing in MLS this season like MBU was suppose to and MinnU would have given the extra year to prepare that they were suppose to.
Tim Leiweke just did an interview with some interesting insight to the Miami situation. A guy who has been hired to help launch the franchise is openly saying he doesn't know if it will happen. I think that is news worthy. http://torontosun.com/sports/soccer...ley-checks-in-with-sun-in-exclusive-chit-chat I also think the "I hope he lands somewhere" part is interesting.
http://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/community/miami-dade/article186844813.html The Herald picked this up and put it into the larger context. I agree it is alarming when someone like Leiweke makes statements like this publicly. But it could also be posturing to push the process along. Who knows. But it is true that there haven’t been any major events on this project for a long time.
Courts can hold the process up for nearly two years ... In light of the little bomb that Lieweke dropped about the falling confidence in the #Beckham #Miami #MLS bid, this might explain why things are going south. I've put together an estimated timeline as to when the case could be resolved. (1) pic.twitter.com/637o5ZERTZ— Miki Turner (@turneresq) November 28, 2017 You may recall that @thesoccerdon said that they hoped to have announcement at the end of the "summer." That has since been changed to "the coming months." (2) pic.twitter.com/npdaGPvbja— Miki Turner (@turneresq) November 28, 2017 There is a good reason they've changed it to "the coming months." There is almost no chance that this (particular) appeal is resolved before July 2018. It has almost nothing to do with Beckham per se; just that the wheels of justice move slowly. (3)— Miki Turner (@turneresq) November 28, 2017 Matheson (the Miami citizen suing #Beckham/#MiamiDade) lost his lawsuit earlier this month. He filed an appeal of that ruling on 11/16. The procedural rules basically ensure it will be upwards of 6-8 months before this appeal is exhausted. (4)— Miki Turner (@turneresq) November 28, 2017 I've put together this little timeline to explain why we are unlikely to get a ruling before July 2018. There are a couple of things to note. 1) I'm not accounting for holidays/weekends when calculating this timeline. 2) This assumes no major extension or expedited timelines. The fact that Beckham's partner is publicly expressing doubts makes it sound like there could be more than just the legal appeal on the land sale that is a concern. After all, it would be a surprise if the appeal actually prevailed and prevented the land deal. But he's not talking like the expansion could be delayed another year. He makes it sound like it might not happen at all. So, is the appeal on the land deal really the entire basis for concern, or is there something else going on? Could Beckham or other partners be getting cold-feet as the projected start-up costs mount? At this point, it seems like Beckham should seriously consider partnering with another expansion city. They'd all be competing to get him involved as even a minority ownership would greatly reduce their expansion fee and his involvement would also greatly increase their chances of being awarded as MLS wants to make good on their promise to him. Go link up with San Diego or something like that. Isn't Landon Donovan also involved with them? Incidentally, I could picture MLS being a HUGE success in San Diego. With only the Padres still in town, MLS could quickly become the sport that the entire community rallies around.
I don't think Beckham can switch cities. He already exercised his option for Miami. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2014...s-mls-expansion-option-future-miami-franchise
The wording of that announcement doesn't sound like exercising his option for an expansion team is necessarily tied to Miami. So, if it is ultimately in the league's best interest to let him change course, I'll bet they could find a way to do so.
I hate this city so much. He's putting up all the money and yet he went to his 4th site and we still won't let him do it. F**k our justice system
Garber stated on CNBC a few years ago that Beckham's franchise option is tied to Miami and if he fails there he can't exercise his option. https://archive.org/details/CNBC_20140612_130000_Squawk_on_the_Street#start/6360/end/6420
The Beckham Miami United Clown Car Keeps Changing Drivers... http://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/community/miami-dade/article189445954.html
If the Max brothers are indeed new partner this is huge! This team will happen and be successful. Also if Over town lawsuit continue these guys can get it done elsewhere and fast. This would be a game changer.
Beckham’s Miami soccer team has been a dream for years. The reality may be days away. http://hrld.us/2DwYGOm
