Can someone explain to me the love affair the gringos have with JF Torres? He is an average MFL player -- he might as well be Chato Rodriguez. I don't get it.

It's like chepo's love affair with zinha.

I'm with you, I watched the nads vs Belgium match and he looked like a shittier version of Israel Castro always passing the ball backward, and like zinha he seemed to slow them down. They still playing bunker ball BTW.

100% spot on. Which is why it still irks me that we didn't win that friendly despite our superior talent. I know it's just a friendly but still, we are clearly a cut above them.

He's closer to Pavel Pardo than Castro although both inaccurate descriptions. Panfilo has called him a poor-man's Xavi.

He doesn't tackle or win the ball. All he does is keep the ball moving, maintain possession. Also, I saw part of his game against CR, and his teammates didn't look for him or use him as much as they should have or as much as he wanted.

Well actually in Paco Torres' case being called a "poor man's Xavi" is a super compliment, the nads have always been good at exploiting on the mistakes of their opposition, kinda like hyenas see a weakness and attack at full speed but once they gave the ball to Torres he always either pass it laterally or backwards and thus killing their surprise. Dude is clearly average at best IMO if he was a poor man xavi he would be more of a stand out in our league.
At least that is what I saw in this game, they were bunkering and trying to hit Belgium in the break, at least until Belgium scored, they did had more possession than they usually do at least against us because Torres was passing back instead of forward which made them change their angle of attack and thus holding the ball a bit more tho in non dangerous territory, nothing more than a shitty Israel Castro or as John Jagou put it a Chatito Rodriguez.

I didn't call him a poor man's Xavi that would be a compliment

I said that he played in the same position as Xavi

He is not like Castro at all. Castro is a much better defender than Torres who doesn't play much defense at all. He might be a better passer but that doesn't mean much because its not like he uses it for something.

The Chato Rodriguez comparison would be good if Torres actually scored once in a while like Chatito does.
