Y'know...watching Leeds this season has given me a new found appreciation for The Championship. Probably one of the most entertaining and unpredictable leagues in the world.
Kudos!...but even he's admitted (according to Buffon) that not winning the World Cup's going to eat at him.
Martin Tyler seems dull, yet he’s a fantastic commentator. David Luiz is worthless. And Pedro is a moron.
Leeds have officially bottled promotion today gents. The Canaries and Blades are on the brink of auto promotion.. I reckon a win this weekend from either side solidifies their place in The Prem next season. Derby, Leeds, Villa. and West Brom to the play-offs.. Winning the play-offs would be Bielsa's biggest achievement to date. Dunno if it'll happen sadly.. ugh!
How would that be considered an achievement if Leeds were leading the league at one point? Would be more like saving face.
Because A. It's Leeds... B. He's doing this with the same squad that finished 13th or 11th last season C. It's the EFL.. anymore questions?
Plus since when did leading the league mean they would automatically promote or become immune to bottling the league when that's been Leed's M.O. since forever? The Championship is pretty much even competitively.. so you can't exactly pull away unless your team invests a lot of $$$(that's logical. see Wolves).. (see the table).. and on top of that Leeds didn't make many if any big time blockbuster moves for Bielsa.. he's using the same squad minus 2-3 players(or plus 2-3 players) that finished dreadful last season. On top of injuries and playing a lot of academy players, Bielsa has done WAY more than what was expected entering the season. Winning the play-offs would A. show his preserverance in the face of adversity compared to his stints at Bilbao and Marseille where his teams fell by the wayside at the very end.. B. Doing the impossible and promote Leeds against all odds after what? 13 years? with minimal investment into his squad compared to again, Bilbao(World Class Academy and Scouting network) and Marseille($$$) Leeds lost 2-1 at home on Friday to a 10-man relegation threatened Wigan.. after being up 1-0... and have just lost to a mid-table side that has nothing to play for after dominating the stat charts.. What I'm saying is, when the going gets tough Bielsa tends to melt away.. If he can manage to wright the promotion ship with a play-off final triumph.. he'd be quieting a lot of doubters and skeptics including himself.
Arsenal lost, Man United lost Chelsea 2 Burnley 2 Chelsea trying to maintain a top four finish 😂💀 #CHEBUR https://t.co/vKdKqdtK6S— Pye Waw (@pyewaw) April 22, 2019
An interesting anecdote from Univisión's Misión Copa Oro last night (only watched once to see if there was anything worthwhile...this was pretty much it). Apparently Conmebol and Concacaf had an agreement that the 1991 Gold Cup would be a qualifying tournament for the 1993 Copa América, with the finalists getting the invite. But then, when Mexico failed to make it, Conmebol called an emergency meeting with Concacaf in Chile, where they decided to let the US qualify as Gold Cup champs and give Mexico a "special invite", leaving Honduras out in the cold. Has anyone else heard of this? Man, Honduras got royally screwed (although at least they got their chance in 2001, and had a historic run) - and it doesn't surprise me at all that Warner would sign off on it, if he was even willing to turn his back on his own national team, not moving a finger when Trinibago got screwed by several phantom offside calls during their game against hosts Haiti in the 1974 WCQ tournament.
