Dude. Rivera, Siquieros, Orozco and Kahlo have far greater influence globally than any of the three you mentioned. Their "populist" themes and genres stemmed from a political bent. To limit their production to "populism" robs them of much of their value. It was more socialism than populism. More importantly, Kahlo and Rivera were not limited to populist themes or works. My friend used to have a 20th century Mexican painters website, but I can't find it anywhere.
Re: cuisine? Seriously... Mexicans represent the best untapped talent in the culinary business. In the US, whether you're eating at a high end Mexican restaurant, French provincial, or even asian fusion... there is a distinct possibility that it was prepared by a Mexican chef. It's in the blood. Mexicans are the best cooks in the world, bar none.
I've had some of my best meals ever in Mazatlan... and that's decidedly down-scale. (At least where I ate it was.)
That was the game that David Testo scored from 75 yards out, right? The Mexie keeper was up for a corner kick, it was cleared, the last Mexie defender didn't get back, Testo cranked it from distance, gooooooooal.
Taking foods that are normally considered "cheap and easy" and making them "gourmet" is really trendy right now. There are chefs on the strip who are doing gourmet Mex, gourmet pizza, Wolfgang Puck even has a gourmet "bar food" restaurant in the MGM. In my experience, the gourmet Mexican places are absolutely amazing. I had a roast duck in mole not too long ago that blew my mind. Mexican food is definitely my favorite cuisine. You guys can have your Salma, I'll take my carne asada tacos.
You know who else was a painter? Hitler, that's who. Combine that with the Zimmerman Note and all the Mexicans named "German" and whadda ya got. Mexicans = Nazis
You're right. They do. But if that's the standard on which you're basing "greatness," then the works of people like Pollack, Warhol and Liechtenstein had a vastly greater influence on global art's development than any of the Mexicans you mentioned. Not necessarily my cup of tea, but their influence was greater. Oh, I'm not saying they weren't sincere in their beliefs. It wasn't just a flashy style. They were genuine Stalinists (or at least Kahlo was)! But they're rather frozen in amber at this point. Like Benton.
I want to do a "she makes me want to be a new born in Africa" joke but I won't cause it's wrong man, just wrong! So I'll just say "Viva la Mexico!"
Next time anyone is in DC, go to Lauriol Plaza (get there early, especially if it is a nice day outside, the place packs out). High end Mexican food, and they've been doing it for over a decade.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. Great rack. But she looks mannish. And I'll bet she's kinda hairy.
Dave, f*** you! You just killed a fantasy. I just searched her photos and she does somewhat, in the slightest way, kinda have a mannish face. Maybe because she doesn't have real defined check bones. I don't know. But damn Dave you didn't have to say it. Take it back!!! I hope this doesn't make me look at her different. She's always been a top 5 favorite. At least you acknowledged the great rack!!!
Why should that matter? You'd be a better cook anyway; and you wouldn't be able to stay out of the kitchen as a result.
