Goalkeeper Eduardo "Lalo" Fernandez, who has been playing with Real Salt Lake-Arizona in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy, signed with Uruguayan power Peñarol last week, according to Wisconsin coach John Trask. Fernandez is still listed on the UW roster. Dual citizenship. He's played with the Mexican Under-17 team and trained with the U.S. Under-20s. His father was a keeper in the Mexican leagues for many years. Story
Interesting. I was looking forward to seeing how he would do at Wisconsin, but I'm always glad to see a kid get a pro contract, especially at a club with a good seller's rep as Penarol. Nice place to live, too. It will be interesting to see how he develops but he has the pedigree and the size and he's in a good environment so you have to like his chances. Also, I found John Trask's comments about Fernandez signing to be very refreshing. Most times college coaches reek of sour grapes when their recruits sign, especially when they do it so late in the recruiting year. But Trask seems to be putting the player first, which is novel for a college coach.

There hasn't been much fanfare for a player moving to one of the more prominent clubs in the Americas. That's probably because everyone knows he won't play.
Has been on the bench for Tigres for all 4 games so far during the Clausura. @bungadiri Lalo Fernandez at Tigres UANL
He was on the bench for Tigres's Copa MX game last night. He was in goal for the U-20s this weekend as they opened the Apertura with a 2-1 win. During the 2018 Clausura he made 3 starts for the U-20s, while regularly dressing for the first team. @TheFalseNine @bungadiri Lalo Fernandez at Tigres UANL
