He didn't. He played some good passes but imo that's not enough if you don't do anything else out there.

I think that describes the entire team. If they continue to play like this, they shouldn't bother to get out of the group.

Think this is inaccurate and harsh. Certainly most agreement among fans and experts is that he had a good game. I don't know what else he should have done. He ran as much as everyone else and got tired in end like everyone else and otherwise was involved in most of Germany's attacks.

The stats show he had few tackles, few balls recovered, few shots, marginal pass completion. So that would indicate a bit of laziness or ineffective positioning if he covered the same distance as everyone else and the scoreline was what it was.

Compared to what he's capable of, this could hardly be called a good outing for him.

Just like at the EC he is simply not effective enough for a "specialist". I do think that he was decent today overall but it's also an issue that he has only enough stamina for 60, 70 minutes and is a liability afterwards which means we have to sacrifice a sub for him or just accept that there is a player on the pitch who can only give 70%.
That only works for players like CR or Messi who can still decide a game at any moment because they are just that lethal but it doesn't work for Özil.

How much of that do you thinks is a factor of Khedira and Lahm's play? Also Götze and Müller?

It seemed in the first half we were attacking with two players most of the time.

He had a good-enough, or adequate performance, IMO. He did well sometimes, poorly others.

Check his stats online. Almost no stats shots, balls recovered, tackles...and very low passes completed. That's good enough? Clearly the score says otherwise.

What about chance creation. Because, to my eyes, he created a fair deal today. Also, IIRC, he made the assist for Götze's opener, but I didn't check who that was, so might be wrong there. And he did alright in tracking back too IMO.

Yeah, that's why he created 2 very dangerous chances around the 80-90 minute, one almost resulting in a goal if the Ghanaian defendre didn't cleared the ball right before their own penalty box away.

None of your players have been really good today, plus Ozil was being played out of position. Although it must be said that he doesn't play bad on the left.

But it's not just all attacking, is it? His critics point out that he's lazy and does not defend. Guess what? That hurt today when you had Khadira playing like he did, Lahm having a bad game, Boateng out for a muscle problem and Mustafi (WTF?) in for him. You cannot simply attack. But even then there were several attacks that developed slowly out of the back where he just trotted upfield and Götze and Müller attacked alone. He just seemed to be off today. Are you saying this was a good day, because we've all seen him play before and I would not classify his play today as average for him.

Was it his fault we drew? Nope. But he contributed little to defense as the stats showed.

    Very constructive.

Yes, played and DEFENDED on grass. Sadly he didn't do much to help defensively.

I didn't say that Özil created nothing, he certainly did but that's simply not enough. Even a very average Götze manages to score, doesn't create less AND manages to work for the team (he had the most tackles together with Hummels and Kroos). So you can say that the other players in attack weren't better and that may be true when looking just at the offensive game but everyone else offers always a good work rate and still more end product than Özil.
It wouldn't even bug me that much if Özil could at least play the full 90 minutes @ 100% because he definitely adds a lot to the fluidity of our game and DOES create chances but I expect more from Özil and people being content with his overall average performances annoy me.
I mean it's not like I am pleased with Müller's performance (he was too wastefull today) or Götze's despite his goal but I also wouldn't try to sell the opposite because I simply expect more from them.
But just to be clear: I wouldn't drop anyone of Müller/Özil/Götze, I like how they play and link up with each other but that doesn't stop me from higher expectations.

For the record, I'd classify his play as slightly below average by his standards. And also, I'd like to see a side-by-side comparison between him and Götze on defence, because I didn't really see much of a difference, tbh.

And it's part of the responsibility of the coach to assign the players defensive duties.

Ozil can defend if he has to, but he clearly is not assigned to do that

While 4-3-3 is certainly not a bad tactic (maybe even better than 4-2-3-1 if you want some defensive strength in midfield), it's not really very usful for Ozil if he plays as a winger, because his natural position is and has always been CAM

Not saying that he has been great today, but in comparison with his other teammates there hasn't been much difference. But after Klose and Schweini came off he certainly began to play better.

No there wasn't much difference. Go to the World Cup site, select the game and look at the stats page. You can see distance covered, balls won, pass completion, etc. If I recall correctly Götze was equally as bad.

Why was he assigned not to? You know this for a fact? How?

Look at the defending stats for Müller, Özil and Götze....they are horrible. But let's not spot there, his pass completion rate was very, very Low. Tell me he wasn't assigned to complete passes.

Agreed. Should have been in a 4-2-3-1 with Özil in CAM and Klose up front. Play that line up and it's a different game.

Statistically speaking, his only number equal to the rest of the team was distance covered...and even that lagged behind some other players.

I don't think this is necessarily true. Özil needs to progress his game. In the center he demands the team be built around him. It's why Wenger is also utilizing him elsewhere.

He can become even better in a 4-3-3 and the reason why is because emphasis is on interchangeability. Nobody stays in same position so Özil isn't required to create width necessarily. He can still do things he did in a 4-2-3-1. So he's really not a winger. He's more of a forward, like everyone else in the front band.

Are the criticism of Ozil based on hatred and racism?

Its sarcasm based on an argument advanced a while ago on this board that Mesut's detractors' dislike for him may be partially rooted in racism.
