Sell Martinez Quarta, use the money to give Mayada a raise, done. /s

I hope there's a bit of a shakeup in the back this transfer window, we're so clearly thin in defense that it's unsettling whenever one of the starters gets a knock.

Nicolas Otamendi set to leave Man City at the end of the season, according to TyC

    https://www.tycsports.com/nota/manc...colas-otamendi-dejara-el-manchester-city.html

Nothing official linking him to River, but he is 31 years old and last year gave a few interviews mentioning that he would like to put on a River jersey due to his (and his son's) fanaticism for the club. Wouldn't be a bad reinforcement, to be honest.. we need alternatives in the back.

The thing to keep in mind is that he has a contract with Man City until 2022, so I'm not exactly sure what figure the English side would want for his exit.

As for Gaby Mercado, who some speculated would return to River given the expiration of his contract in two months, it looks like Sevilla has now offered him a new deal. Many were hoping he'd replace Montiel on the right flank, but his recent NT performances were very poor, so maybe it's for the best he doesn't return. He still hasn't put the pen to the paper though, so technically the door is still open.

In other news, Luis Diaz, the 22-year-old Colombian who River sought as a replacement for Pity Martinez in January, expressed today that "its always been a dream of mine to play for River".... apparently they'll be making another push for him in June (much like how Pity and a few others finally arrived after previous failed transfer window attempts)

Everything is pointing that Otamendi to River is impossible. To be honest, I don't really care. He is a player I honestly strongly disliked before he started making social media posts about River. He was a disaster for the NT at two world cup- 2010 and 2018- and while both times he was clearly hampered by first Maradona for playing him as a RB then Sampalobby for playing him next to Rojo then Fazio, but the guy was a disgrace in both WCs (as was the whole Argentina team in 2018, to be fair) and I also just thought he was completely overrated.

Not to mention, on the off chance that a player like Otamendi could arrive, he would demand wages that we couldn't afford. If we are going to bring a player with a European level, I want him to be someone who lifts those around him and scores goals.

I would MUCH rather have Mercado. He is a much humbler version of Otamendi, and actually knows what it means to play for River. He doesn't need to put social media posts to be loved and respected by River fans. He also was, along with Tagliafico and Armani, the only Argentine players to do well in Russia.

I would love Luis Dias. I haven't been following him in the Copa Libertadores this year, but I really liked what I saw of him before. I think he'd be a perfect alternative to have up front/on the wings.

$12,000,000 offer for Cristian Ferreira turned down.. His contract release clause is worth €25,000,000, although they'd be willing to listen to offers in the ~20 region

    ----

Atletico Madrid is the latest team to become interested in the gem that is Exequiel Palacios. With Real Madrid backing down a bit after his injury and Inter not making concrete moves, the Colchoneros are considering taking advantage of his low buyout clause and will be sending scouts to observe him tomorrow vs. Aldosivi and next week vs. Internacional for the Copa. 15 million really is a steal, and a team like Atletico could easily make him worth 4-5 times as much with one good season....

    ----

Guillermo Barros Schelotto is still after Ignacio Fernandez, with Galaxy willing to put down €7,000,000 for Nacho's transfer. However, River isn't interested in that figure, wanting a couple million more on top of that (his release clause is double that figure). It is worth noting, though, that Nacho has been keen to transferring for a while, so that could help make a move happen if the MLS side bumps up their offer a bit. With midfielder Romain Alessandrini suffering a long-term injury just recently, Galaxy's long-existing interest for Fernandez has intensified even more in the last few days.

    ----

German Lux is considering leaving the club in order to get regular playing time in the final stage of his career. In the last few days he was offered to Gimnasia (LP)

    ----

In other news, it looks like Crespo hasn't been convinced by Matias Moya (the 21-year-old has only played 5 games at Banfield) and is considering terminating his loan 6 months early. His situation will be analyzed more in-depth in the coming weeks.

    ----

Players set to return from their loans next month:
Maxi Velazco, Alexander Barboza, Ivan Rossi, Zacarias Moran Correa, Carlos Auzqui, Marcelo Larrondo

At the moment, none of them would be kept in mind by Gallardo and are all negotiable. Larrondo has been injury-free in his spell in Chile and has scored a few goals, attracting interest from a few Chilean and Mexican clubs for a transfer once his loan concludes. It is worth noting that his contract with River expires in a year, though, so we'd either have to sell, release, or keep him (no more loans).

    Barboza
has been solid and a fundamental part of 2nd place Defensa y Justicia's campaign, capturing the attention of multiple clubs (Independiente, Rosario Central, Penarol, Tijuana). However, many of them want a loan, something River isn't interested in after already loaning out Barboza 3 times. The idea would be to sell him to the highest bidder once and for all, although another possibility is offering him to DyJ as part of a payment for Lisandro Martinez, who has been on River's radar for months now.

Everton's interest in Santiago Sosa is intensifying, with the English side rumored to be preparing a 14 million euro offer. The factor playing against a move is his lacking of a European passport, although they're trying to get him a work permit like they did with Funes Mori in 2015.

It would be a shame if the kid left. He has just 5 games under his belt, but his future seems immensely promising. Could be the future DMF of the NT...

Cocca interested in Luciano Lollo (he coached him at Racing) and Alexander Barboza (River wants approximately 3-4 million for him) to reinforce Rosario Central's defense for next season.

In other news, it looks like Jorge Carrascal's loan may be terminated 6 months early (after the Recopa) in order to free up a foreign player slot.

River turned down a $2,000,000 offer from Olimpia (PAR) for Alexander Barboza. The Paraguayans are still very interested in the centerback to reinforce their Libertadores squad, so there could be a counteroffer.

Atletico Mineiro and Gremio are the two other foreign sides interested in the 24-year-old.

River is interested in 19-year-old CM Anibal Moreno, currently at Newell's and part of the Argentina U-20 NT WC squad

Same guy that scored this golazo vs Uruguay in the Sudamericano sub-20 earlier this year..

Edit: Newell's initially asking for 10 million

River just made use of Fabrizio Angileri's loan buyout clause. The former Godoy Cruz defender will stay permanently at the club in exchange for $2,300,000

In reality, he had another 7 months remaining on his loan, but part of the agreement was that River had to buy his transfer once the loan concluded. Considering how the buyout was agreed in USD and the Argentine peso is rapidly devaluing, they decided to just pay now instead of later and save some money... His contract will last until 2023.

In other news, Everton is still after Santiago Sosa, and word going around is that once the U-20 WC concludes they will scoop him up for approximately $15,000,000 :(

17-year-old rightback Facundo Lopez has joined River on loan from Ferro. The buyout clause (80% of his transfer) will be $200,000 if utilized by the end of year; $286,000 if activated before April 2020; $400,000 if we buy him by December 2020.

Regardless of which of three sums, it'll be a steal if the kid does well.. Apparently he's being monitored by Uruguay for their youth national teams since he possesses both Argentine and Uruguayan citizenship (his mother is Uruguayan).

Hertha Berlin interested in Lucas Martinez Quarta. Although it isn't in River's plans to sell him in the next window, if an offer worth approximately €12 million arrives they'll let him go.

Meanwhile, Olimpia's president is insisting on Alexander Barboza, so it looks like the negotiations with the Paraguayans may be revived. Originally a $1.2 million difference stopped the deal (River wants $4 million, Olimpia formally offered $2,800,000), but they've returned to the negotiation tables and may work a halfway deal. It is worth noting though that in recent hours Santos Laguna (MEX) has joined the ranks of teams interested in the 24-year-old centerback.

In terms of other "back-up" defenders, it looks like Luciano Lollo has received an offer from Tijuana (besides the previously existing interest from Rosario Central).

In other news, it looks like Ivan Rossi may be moving on loan to Patronato. Yeah, I know.... nobody cares about this kid. But it's still market news nonetheless.

Luciano Lollo has agreed terms with Banfield for a loan. However, River's board is analyzing whether or not to extend his contract for another year before sending him out (his contract expires in 2020, meaning he'd be a free agent at the end of the loan). The original idea was to sell him abroad, but no offers have arrived.

Newell's have inquired about the possibility of acquiring Carlos Auzqui on loan. Huracan, where el perro spent the last 12 months, are also interested in extending his loan.

Independiente are after Alexander Barboza, who Becaccece coached in Defensa y Justicia and is very fond of. However, their offer for now is simply $1,500,000 for 50% of his transfer, which is less than what River is looking for. Several foreign teams want the centerback as well, although it seems everyone is trying to budge on the price. His final destination will be influenced heavily by where he pressures to go to.

Santiago Sosa had everything set to move to Everton in exchange for $15,000,000, however he is having trouble getting a work permit since he doesn't have enough games in Primera. They are trying to get around that obstacle by counting his U20 NT matches this year (Sudamericano Sub-20 + WC), although things are getting iffy and the Brits may just desist from moving forward with the operation due to the complications.

Enrique Bologna will be a free agent in a few weeks and could be headed to either Union or Arsenal de Sarandi.

Camilo Mayada still hasn't signed, and it looks like unless there is a last minute surprise he'll be headed out the door. He already has an offer on the table from Atletico San Luis (MEX), who recently signed Ricky Centurion.

In terms of reinforcements, Paulo Diaz remains one of the priorities, although the same issue as in the past transfer window continues: the Saudi side wants $5,000,000 for the Chilean's transfer, while River wants to seal a deal for a loan with a buyout clause. For now, we'll have to wait as his agent pressures for the move to go through. For the record, Diaz has already prioritized River (his former team San Lorenzo were also after him).

21-year-old Uruguayan midfielder Gabriel Neves (Nacional) is also being linked to River, as has been confirmed by his agent.

A lot of movement relating to defenders lately..

Celta de Vigo presented a €7,000,000 offer for Lucas Martinez Quarta. The proposal was quickly shot down, but the Spaniards may be returning with a counteroffer in the next days. River didn't plan on selling him during this transfer window, but if they minimize the 5 million euro difference separating their initial offer and what River wants, it could very well go through.

Alexander Barboza is pressuring to join Independiente. River turned down the Avellaneda side's first offer ($1,500,000 for 50%), instead proposing $3,000,000 for 80% to close the deal. Independiente have been trying to cut corners (they have been extra cheap during this transfer market, as is evident by their other attempted moves), but the combined will of all parties for the transfer to go through once and for all will likely push the deal through in the coming days.

If the money arrives for Barboza's transfer, Paulo Diaz could be one step closer to River. While the Chilean's agent is still pressuring the Saudi side to accept River's loan offer, it seems the Arabs are not budging and it may just be in our own best interest to just buy his transfer directly. Approximately 5 million would be the cost for the 24-year-old who is currently competing in the Copa America.

In recent days it had been mentioned that Facundo Roncaglia was an alternative reinforcement option for Diaz, although the former Boca defender's agent was quick to announce that his client doesn't plan on joining River.

21-year-old David Martinez has left on a 12-month loan to Defensa y Justicia, where he will be serving as a replacement for Barboza. The kid has already expressed his intent to return to River next year and fight for a spot after having some more experience under his belt.

20-year-old leftback Luis Olivera is set to return from his loan at River Plate (URU), where he didn't get the expected playing time during his six months there. Olivera, who was part of the U-15 and U-17 Argentina NTs and even started the crucial Copa Argentina 2016 final for us vs. Central shortly after turning 18, will not form part of Gallardo's plans and will be in search of a new destination. Central Cordoba, Deportivo Moron, Villa Dalmine, and Atlanta have all already reached out to inquire about his services.

DMF Zacarias Moran Correa, who didn't get to play a minute during his 2018-19 loan deal with San Martin (SJ) due to being plagued with injuries, has extended his contract til 2021 and will be playing next season free of charge for Chacarita.

And while it seemed like Luciano Lollo was finally going to leave, of course we have reached another bump in the road.. previously the guy was refusing to take a pay cut (which is why he never left in other windows), and now the team that wants him doesn't want to put down a cent: after reaching a personal agreement to join Crespo's Banfield, el Taladro are now saying that they do not want to pay the slim $250,000 fee River was requesting for the 12 month deal. Disgraceful. The other stone in the road is that River is asking Lollo to extend his contract for another year so he doesn't become a free agent when the loan concludes, but to do so he'd have to take an annual paycut and we all know how fond Lucianito is of the lifestyle he's been having these last 3 years.

Really River should desist with negotiating with Banfield -- it's always the same story: they give us hell when we want one of theirs (Bertolo anyone? Cvitanich?), yet we always bend over when they're after our players (ahem... Bertolo anyone?). As for Lollo himself, talk about having no shame...

    ----

As for offensive players, there are a few things going on as well, although not as much action.

After failing at their attempt to recover Gigliotti, it seems Independiente are analyzing the possibility of making a move for Marcelo Larrondo. However, as I mentioned above, their finances aren't the best and their board is extremely stingy, so their idea would be to make a loan offer. River's priority is to sell him, but if nothing concrete arrives he may very well leave on another loan deal.

Olympique Lyonnais made an approach for Lucas Pratto, although River made it clear that they have no plan to sell him. Oso is also very happy at the club, so the only way he'll be joining the French side is if they decided to activate his €30,000,000 buyout clause, which seems extremely unlikely.

La Liga midtable team CD Leganes are negotiating to acquire Carlos Auzqui on loan. He isn't in River's plans, so the only thing to sort out are minor details (i.e. cost of loan, buyout clause)

Jorge Carrascal is said to be having a good pre-season, reason for which he may in the end stay at the club til his loan fully concludes. However, Gallardo is still keeping a close eye on him and will supposedly have a chat once the preseason is over to make a final decision regarding whether or not he wants to continue counting on the Colombian moving forward.

Youngster Martin Payero is one of the prospects that River is after (Boca have also expressed interest), although Banfield value him at $14,000,000 and are requesting the majority of the payment now in a lump sum. River will try to include a few youngsters on loan as part of the negotiation, but it won't be anything easy as Banfield are standing firm.

Paulo Diaz remains the sole target of the transfer window. The Chilean had been left out of Al-Ahli's AFC Champions League roster, indicating that a move to River was on the cusp, but now issues with the form of payment have risen. River is offering to pay $3 million now, as well as an additional $2 million in installments, but the Saudi side wants the total in the form of a lump sum payment. The story continues....

    Martin Caceres
, who played for Juventus last season and is now a free agent, has been offered as an alternative. Despite the Uruguayan defender's extensive track record for both club and country, Gallardo doesn't seem to prioritize the 32-year-old's arrival. However, the door hasn't fully been shut yet either, and things could change if the Diaz transfer falls through.

Carlos Auzqui has joined Lanus on loan for a season ($120,000 fee). The 28-year-old, who spent last season with Huracan, will have a purchase option of $3,000,000 in his loan contract.

Nahuel Gallardo is analyzing the possibility of leaving on loan to gain regular playing time. Union was a possibility in recent weeks, although they ended up signing another leftback and thus are no longer interested in el Muneco's son. San Martín de Tucuman, who will be playing in the Nacional B next season, are an option. It will be up to the 21-year-old to decide if he prefers to stay in River as the third option for the position or leave for a year to play in San Martin or another similar small side.

Newell's are interested in acquiring Ivan Rossi on loan and River have no problem whatsoever in sending him away (he is not in Gallardo's plans), however the Rosarinos want River to pay half of his contract (on top of having the loan be free of charge). This wasn't River's idea, but they're considering accepting the deal since no side will benefit from just having Rossi rot away in our reserves.

Marcelo Larrondo extended his loan with Union La Calera (CHI). The 30-year-old forward, who scored just 3 goals in 15 games during his last six months there, will remain in Chile until the end of the year.

... and happened a while ago, but Luciano Lollo officially left to Banfield. The loan was sealed in exchange for $150,000, with an attached buyout clause of $2,000,000 for 50% of his transfer (the 32-year-old extended his contract with River til 2022).

Alexander Barboza joined Independiente earlier this month, after el Rojo deposited $3,000,000 for the 82.5% of the transfer that belonged to River.

Would have been poor from D'Onofrio if he didn't got the one player Gallardo asked for. Diaz should be a good addition to the squad, can play several positions (like Mayada did) and was very good for San Lorenzo.
