FYI - All discussion about our trading of long tenured fan-favorite Justin Meram, and our pick up of Ghanaian crew-killer David Accam is taking place in the thread entitled "2019 Roster Thread" even though these are two very large events for our team and will likely have impact beyond this season. I start this thread not to comment on the fact that we used to have separate topic-based threads related to big player news, which obviously made too much sense to continue. Whereas now blockbuster trades within our division which are noticed by all of MLS, get the same billing as off-season third string goalkeeper pickups. My reason to start this thread was merely to let everyone who might wonder why we don't discuss things anymore realize that they first have to read or skim the 41 pages of other transaction news before they get to this Meram / Accam news.
Please don't attempt to have a discussion about this news in this thread, as that would be counter-productive to the orderly discussion of our entire roster, going on in the 2019 Roster Thread thread.
Its definitely an upgrade and I like seeing signs of life from Black & Gold Blvd to help bolster the attack now and to not wait until the transfer window. Its refreshing.
Speed too. He's easily our fastest likely starter and probably up there with Opoku for overall fastest on the team.
Absolutely. Gives us the potential to do something on the counter other than cycling the ball side to side or waiting for an Afful overlap and another cross.
I mentioned this in the roster thread too. They already lost Cory Burke for 3 months, and possibly the season. It's a very strange move from Philly's perspective. Or maybe, Bez is just a ********in sorcerer.
accam will need to score a meaningful goal before we decide what kind of transportation mode his hype takes the form of.
In fairness, though, two of those goals were against the Crew's backup goalkeeper. We need to properly ratio those. No matter what factor we use, though, the result is still greater than ZERO.
Interesting piece related to the Accam signing Little nugget in @samstejskal’s article confirms what I heard. #Crew96 made a run at Jonathan Lewis. They tried to make a deal before the season and at the deadline. https://t.co/tkKfDXPcHF— Patrick Guldan (@GuldanMR) May 9, 2019
Since he ended up at Rapids--I wonder if they simply offered more ($650k of TAM + International Slot).
