I'm not too engaged in this particular argument. But I CAN say that this post was a good example of CIVIL disagreement. We could use a whole lot more of that. +1
I'm not saying that *you specifically* said this, but it is interesting to me that Freddie is seen as an acceptable interim option while Arteta was poo-pooed as lacking experience
I think it's because people are associating Freddie with young guys that are playing well. So the Emery guys are not doing great while the Freddie ones are.
While I don't want to speak for him (oh, who am I kidding, of course I do) I don't think it's a Freddie over Arteta plea. I'd imagine the poster would take Arteta at this point too. It's more of a proximity thing --- Freddie is already there, and at least all of the youth players, seem to think very highly of him.
I would imagine it will take awhile to find a new coach wether it’s Arteta or someone else, but let’s give Freddie the interim until we find one. But communicate with Freddie that this is an interim position only.
Fair enough. Getting the interim thing right is so hard. Say Freddie does a Solskjaer and the team over-performs for the rest of the year. What do you do then? Hard to properly measure the impact of somebody like Freddie versus just getting rid of the trash before him. Then you're in a position where you have to weigh keeping on a club favorite versus getting an outside candidate in who might be a much better manager. I'm not saying we don't need to do all of this but the road ahead looks very complicated.
This is the problem with mid-season sackings. It rarely works out and sometimes gives you a false sense of optimism.
This is why I hate stats. They played different teams with different teams. Why try to draw silly conclusions like this based on silly stats? Wenger has done better though. Emery has had enough time to see that, but damn, the amnesia people have now with respect to how we looked and played during the end of Wenger’s tenure is really weird to me.
