Good point, looking at it again Mancini has to guard the overlap at the same time. And we should be playing it safe in the last 5. I see our defenders rushing out of position all the time though, especially Kolarov. I just get annoyed seeing our fans put everything wrong with the team on 1 player all the time. If that was Olsen conceding the same shot no one would be talking about Florenzi.
Outside of this frustrating result, Diawara was an absolute boss today. With every game he plays, his price tag is looking a bigger and bigger steal. Complete class in moving the ball around even with multiple markers around.
Raggi: 4th place for Roma is possible. As long as Napoli drops 95% of their points till the end. Raggi: I'll miss Pallotta... the one that got away.
Other than Diawara (and some nice plays from Diego, as you would expect), everyone was dogshit tonight. Horrible performance. Horrible result. A bit like watching 4 months of work go down the drain.
I hate playing Torino. Even when they're mediocre they're still always a frustrating team to play against.
Pellegrinis selfishness and immaturity cost us the points tonight. Well, Under made 2 sitters in couple of minutes he played. More than Zani a whole match who was completely off tonight.
Oggi Mancini e Smalling inguardabili, finiti nel momento in cui gli 1.0 hanno iniziato a farsi le seghe su di loro— β (@michaelddr6) January 5, 2020 1.0 masterclass
We do have an incredible record against them at home though. Only 2 defeats in over 30 years. I wouldn't mind playing them more often, just not after a Christmas break. We do this almost every year. Expect the same reaction next game to that of after the Sampdoria match.
We cannot continue to play virtually without a striker in the box. Dzeko can be useful in certain circumstances but he cannot be our lead striker all season if we want to finish in the top 4 without even thinking of progressing in EL and Coppa.
Last season I never thought I'd say this but we've really missed Kluivert these past few games, he opens a lot of space for Zaniolo and Pellegrini that Perrotti can't replicate as our attack lacks pace without him Kluivert is the closest we've had to a Salah type winger who loves to run behind the defence, without this type of winger the attack is too static IMO
What would Pellegrini have done with the space yesterday, Zaniolo as well? The one player of the 3 who showed up was not the issue yesterday. Slow down on the hot takes because kluivert has had a handful of decent games. We have been fine the past games without when the team shows up. Yesterday kluivert would have had little impact with the others performing as they did.
I don’t think he’s saying Perotti was the problem, rather that Kluivert adds a different skill set (pace) that changes the balance of the team. Some of our most dominant performances have come when Kluivert is playing. It’s not because Kluivert is some world beater, but that he adds a different threat that changes how teams have to defend against us. When Kluivert is not on the field it is easier to press us because there’s less to worry about on the counterattack. Zaniolo has legs too but it’s a lot easier to mark him out of the game if you never have to worry about us running past the defense on the other side.
Good point. Kluivert has certainly scored goals probably none of our other players can when his speed carries him away from the last defender for a one-on-one with the opposing goalkeeper. I feel that we do miss him more than we might have expected to.
I know he wasn't. My point was disputing was about the space he can open up for pellegrini etc. Based on the performance yesterday it would not have mattered when the players don't show up. Pellegrini has the mental strength of an egg shell. You can tell within 5 mins if he will have a good game or bad game based on if he does something good or bad on his first touch. He really needs to grow up. Kluivert yesterday would have made no difference based on them playing so poorly
