Let's not pre-judge. Maybe Chelsea understood how untenable Matt's position was at club yet did not think it could accept termination of a loan for business reasons. Having Matt bear the onus may have solved the problem. I guess we'll see in due course how Matt fares back in London. Toronto could use a good CB who is unlikely to get injured. Chelsea need a loan for Matt thru May which is exactly the CCL season for Toronto. He'd play with Ciman as a partner and he is already used to playing with Delgado and Bradley.
I'd prefer for Miazga to remain in Europe, even if he has to go down to a Championship team (which is not a bad sign so far Chelsea owns his contract). You show well in the Ch'ship, you're more likely to get a shot in the Premiership than if you go to some mid-table team in Denmark, Belgium or the Netherlands.
I want Miazga back in the NL or Germany. Gotta be some relegation fodder club that would take a risk on him.
It's legit 'cause of the "even": see, even if the Championship is a second division, it's still better than mid-table teams in non-top 5 leagues, for a guy owned by an EPL club. The remaining "stay in Europe" is an intro comment.
MLS Ticker: TFC acquire No. 1 spot in Allocation Order Maybe they will, maybe they won't, but the option is there.
I've heard that differently - that 2019 is likely to be his last season. I'm not sure who would sign him at the salary he would command.
Excellent question. Even if he slashed it by 50%; he still might have problem finding worthy suitors.
I always thought it was odd that TFC, of all the teams in MLS, was the one that chose to overpay for Bradley and Altidore. I would have thought they were more valuable to American teams.
Getting less than a half season loan for a defender doesn't sound like an easy proposition, not that I'm an expert on loans in Euroleagues. Having said that, Fullham need exactly that. Hwvr, one gets the feeling they want a sure thing. I have full confidence in Miazga but I'm not sure Fullham would.
Matt joins Reading on loan till the end of the season. They're currently sitting 22nd out of 24 teams in the Championship and their starting CBs are Tiago Ilori and Liam Moore. #ReadingFC are delighted to announce that @MattMiazga3 has joined the club on loan from @ChelseaFC until the end of the season. ✍️#MiazgaJoinshttps://t.co/IZto3rXaZj— Reading FC (@ReadingFC) January 25, 2019
They’re probably a step down from the quality of most MLS clubs, but the level of competition is at least slightly higher. Plus he’s still in Europe. Better than rotting in Chelsea reserves.
I’ll ask the question again: why is it bad for players to sign with Chelsea-like clubs? Seems to me that he’s in a much better place now than if he signed directly with Nantes - Chelsea is clearly looking to find playing time for him and pro-actively took him out of a bad situation. That sounds quite positive to me
