I think yes not just because im from Chile. He played consistenly well in the national league, national team and Copa Sudamericana.

If I start to think about the "nominees" and you start looking at the players "available", I would say it would be between these 3: Palacios (BJ) - Matias (CC) - Rafael Sobis (Internacional) Sobis, has the upper hand, as his team won the Copa Libertadores and is now a 1st team guy for Brazil. He was the top scorer in the CL and was an unbelievable player..truly inspired at all times. We'll see him in next Copa America. Pro's: Copa Libertadores Champion, CL top scorer, plays for 1st team Brazil - If you're going to do well, this is the tournament to do it in. Con's: Inter- Not one of the top 5 Brazilian club 'powerhouse' teams Seen little of him after CL, as he was traded to Sevilla after CL Matias, is right now, "on american soil", playing the best futbol, no doubt. He's young at 20, but is an experienced player on the field. Colo-Colo would not be where they are without Matias. He's just what the Chilean NT needed - speed, agility, goal and young. Pro's: Good chance of being Copa Sud champion w. Colo-Colo; 1st team Chile NT player, his skills are better then Palacios/Sobis Con's: Probably his age. Many maythink he's got plenty of opportunity to win accolades in the future. Also, although I know he's "half" Argentino, but a Chilean at heart, he's sandwiched between Arg + Braz candidates. Palacios, has been the most consistent Boca player. Gago has as well, but Gago's receives much more support from a Boca who plays a very agressive game on the pitch. Palacio's has had very little to no help upfront and has been responsible for benching veteran players Palermo/ Guille. His speed, skills and on-target play have helped Boca to 3 domestic championships (we all know Boca will win on Sunday). Pro's: Consistent, fast, been a key piece to Boca's past local championships. Con's: Has had very little int'l play/experience. No Copa Libertadores and a limited Copa Sudamericana for Palacios. So much of it is based solely on Boca's local campaign.
Good list. I'd say that Sobis is a small step above both Fernandez and Palacio, but the best player should come out of those 3. I would add to a list of candidates Bobadilla (great campaign with Libertad, good World Cup performance, about to score another championship with Boca) and Gago (great talent, pivotal in Boca's latest achievements). Fernandao had a good year with Inter as well. Palacio's performance in Boca is exceptional. By himself (even more since Lavolpe took over) he has singlehandedly won games, many of them at a great level (Recopa Sudamericana). I would say that Matias is one of the strongest candidates but the competition is fierce... and the fact that he's neither Argie or Brazilian doesn't help him.
Very good analysis really. To Palacio's international record I'd like to add that even though this year he didn't have that many international games he still managed to score 2 goals in 2 games in the Sudamericana and 3 goals in 2 games in the Re-Copa against Sao Paulo. His overall international record so far with Boca is great. 12 goals in 20 matches. Shame he hasn't been able to show his skill in the Libertadores. Next year for sure . I won't talk about his league form because I'll just rave on for a while. Needless to say he has been insane and as Caturro said he has singlehandedly won more than one game since LaVolpe took over. That being said I think it will be between Sobis and Matias especially if Colo Colo win the Sudamericana. I wouldn't mind Matias winning it. From what I've seen of him he's been awesome.
Bobadilla has been really solid with Boca this year. A slip here or there but overall he's been great. I'm glad to have him playing for Boca. Gago has been great also but Palacio and even Insua last Clausura eclipsed him.

I don't know about "Pipita": he only really (and succesfully) burst onto the scene this semester, whereas Gago has been a starter with Boca for almost a year. And currently, Higuain only has a French passport, so maybe that played a role? (Since it's supposed to be given to an American player, or does that not matter? Anyone know?) metro
