Hopefully, next game against Netherlands will be more exciting than this...

And you’re not excited that we’re dominating and getting tons of opportunities? I am . To me that’s not boring.

79' 2-0 Fleming passes down box right to 6m, Lawrence crosses to 5m left post. Sinclair jumps behind Stott, heads sharply down and up off left post, ball pops up and drops at 3m center. Prince front-cuts Erceg, knees or sole-blocks ball over goalline center, with Nayler still coming back from left post. New Zealand can defend the obvious crosses, but mayhem wrecks their shape.

83' 2-0 Canada subs in (2 of 3) #5 Rebecca Quinn for #16 Janine Beckie.
84' 2-0 Canada subs in (3 of 3) #19 Adriana Leon for #18 Nichelle Prince, who departs through far touch and takes the long walk around.

85' 2-0 New Zealand subs in (3 of 3) #9 Emma Kete for #12 Betsy Hassett.

That just shows how bad NZ is...The same thing with USA vs Thailand...It's pathetic that US player celebrates every single goal with too much fake joy...lol...

I need NZL to spice these last 5 minutes up and score.

The referee missed a yellow card that should have been given against NZL.

This is reminding me a bit of Italy v. Jamaica. Nothing dynamic, but solid, not allowing New Zealand to do much of anything. And in this case, Canada have thoroughly controlled the midfield. FIFA has possession 70/30 to Canada. It is not dynamic in any way, but very solid, very cohesive.

86' 2-0 Longo passes from own box top right, Scott intercepts and counters to arc top left. Bowen comes back and slide-pokes ball away through box, just wide left low.

87' 2-0 Canada cross to 4m 2-right for Lawrence(!) way up in box, Nayler punches away. Hassett is just now arriving at the bench area.

88' 2-0 Canada cross from ~27m box right to 15m left post, Leon almost settles it while landing-and-turning, stumbles down under some pressure from Percival, sprawls forward and loses it.

90' 2-0 Chapman, Leon, and Fleming ping a triangle at box top wide left. Sinclair joins the triangle, they lose it, New Zealand switch (their) left, longball up left touch drifts out.

I wouldn’t say NZ is horrible. They defend mightily and don’t give up many goals, (see the Netherlands last minute goal to win). They just don’t have many offensive options. Thailand on the other hand....well, they don’t belong here

Fun fact: This is the first time Canada have won a FIFA Women's World Cup match by more than one goal since 2007; Ghana was the victim back then.

Nah, NZL is horrible. They’re relatively fit, so they don’t look as bad as other teams. I hate this term but NZL played from the back the entire match.

This will give an idea of Canada's domination:

90+1' (of +3') 2-0 Chance rolls a through-ball down box left for Riley chasing, Buchanan clears into far touch.

90+1' (of +3') 2-0 New Zealand left throw-in, Riley chases ball at arc top wide left, Lawrence misses ball and steps on Riley's left foot. Scream, foul.

90+2' (of +3') 2-0 Percival fk at arc top wide left, to 7m 4-left, Quinn dive-heads into far touch.

90+3' (of +3') 2-0 New Zealand cross from 5m wide left to 6-top 2-left, White jumps against Zadorsky's back and heads down just wide left low.

FT 2-0. Canada's relentless (if a bit helter-skelter) pressure ground out two goals, and New Zealand (4.0M) just does not have the gas to sprint for 90'. They have even fewer viable bench players than Norway (5.2M) does.

For contrast, Argentina's defense vs. Japan was probably better than any bunker we've seen since, but also Japan was much less direct in that game than Canada has been. The lesson is learned: Be like Canada :D and attaaaaaack

NZL tried to park the bus like Argentina. That's why it was boring for some time.

If NZL were going forward a little more, I think Canada would have taken advantage of the gaps a little more.

I think NZL hoped for a draw and tries to beat Cameroon in the final group game...Total 2 shots and 0 shots on goal...Wow...

    Canada 22(6)-(0)2 shots(sog), 8-1 corners, 1-2 offsides, 8-5 fouls, 20-40 clearances.

All that youthful speed on Canada's roster lets them dictate pace and burn endless energy on low-odds attacks, and New Zealand doesn't have the athletes to match that.

Honestly, I can’t see NZ beating Cameroon. Cameroon has speedy attackers that are aggressive. NZ just doesn’t have horses up front

I swear I would have Canada’s possession closer to 80%. That’s how bad NZL was. With that said, this shows how ineffective Canada was tonight. SMH
