Alas, actually not an unfrequent experience in women's football! Looks like women's football doesn't deserve good announcers.
Unlike the commentators, I don't think that was a good save from Panos. She has to parry that away from goal and not back into the mix. The ball was on her left and ended up going immediately to her right; that's a clear sign of a handling error to me. Of course, the defending was poor as well.
I love Ariana Hingst at half. She’s like, (paraphrasing) “yeah, you’re not going to beat Germany if you don’t score there” While Kelly Smith is like (paraphrasing) “You are a disgrace, your children’s children will bare your shame for missing that goal” Ariana rolls eyes like. “Chill, honey, it’s just a missed goal, happens every game.”
46' 1-0 Germany subs in (1 of 3) #19 Klara Bühl (18 yrs!) for RB #3 Kathrin Hendrich. It looks like Schweers => LB, Gwinn => RB(?), Bühl => LF. 47' 1-0 Hermoso right ck, bounces to 5m 5-left, off Putellas's chest(?), pops up to goalline 1/5 left, Schult catches high. 49' 1-0 Däbritz passes up wide left, Bühl is offside leaning past the line? Bühl dribbles to 18m wide left, cross to 9m 2/5 left. Popp is alone in that lane, side-heads to goal center, Paños catches.
I'm so not a fan of the delayed flag. Someone's gonna get hurt playing on through a definitive offsides.
Is it possible VAR is giving them info live? That’s not how it is supposed to work, but on the Nahikari offside, there were 8 seconds between touch and call.
57' 1-0 Däbritz cross from box top wide left to 15m mid-right, Popp leans back and heads across mouth to 2m 6-left, Paños runs out and collects. 59' 1-0 Putellas dribbles to circle top, pass right to Mariona. Germany are playing a tighter press in midfield, and Spain no longer have the space (or legs?) to make all of those short passes. 59' 1-0 Spain subs in (1 of 3) #17 Lucia García for #9 Mariona Caldentey.
For sure it was a very professional and unsportsmanlike foul. Maybe YC was the right call, but I would have wished for a Red here.
62' 1-0 Huth dribbles up wide right, early diagonal pass into Bühl's stride through box top right. Bühl cuts inside to 12m mid-right, shoots left foot to 1/4 right, Paños catches. 63' 1-0 Nahikari(?) leans past Schweers and gets hip-checked down in arc left. Foul, yellow card on Schweers. 64' 1-0 Marta fk at 19m left post, into the wall. Germany clear up the right, Spain turnover in back? Bühl dribbles alone through box top right to 12m mid-right, leans back and shoots way high. 1138860384230825986 is not a valid tweet id 65' 1-0 Germany subs in (2 of 3) #20 Lina Magull for #6 Lena Oberdorf.
Meanwhile, if Bühl would be able to shoot with the same ability she displays in dribblings, Germany would have scored two other goals. Another very interesting yougster in, this time for Spain: U-20 WWC star Patri Huijarro. Let's hope she recovered well from her previous injury and can show good things too!
66' 1-0 Spain subs in (2 of 3) #12 Patri Guijarro for #15 Silvia Meseguer. 66' 1-0 Lucia García cross from 4m box right to 1m 2-right, Doorsoun blocks it over endline right. 67' 1-0 Hermoso left ck to 5m 1/4 left, Schult catches high. 68' 1-0 Hermoso receives a backpass at 12m 6-right, shoots left instep bend but gets no bend, wide left.
Spain playing too cute in their offensive third. Just put the ball in the net. Stop trying to do so much in front of goal.
Yes, but Smith was right: If you are on the national team and are in on goal, you have to do better than that Spanish player did. She didn't even come close to getting the ball on frame. Terrible effort--and as Hingst noted, you may not get any better chances than that. Spain just isn't dynamic enough up front. Lots of good possession but the forward's lack pace and no real scorers. And the problem with pinging the ball around a lot if that the defense is almost always getting back. It was only because of two PK calls that they scored against South Africa.
Hey, @Romario'sgurl, I miss you!!! Why don't you post more? And don't grumble about not liking the people here or such nonsense: there is ME, what else could you wish for?
One little bonus to.watching world cup play: more players wearing #19. Which was my number. And usually there aren't many 19s to feature.
