VAR and the delay on the offside flags are killing this Cup

In fact I will be very surprised if this record stands until 90'. Let's see! :coffee:

After all we had all of the usual stuff Fox announcers take out from their closets, from the handball-coach dad to Hjelmseth pursuing a computer science engineering career. Can they somehow bite their tongues about Hegerberg?

I don't mind it. It helps them get the decision right.

You could see the VAR screen she was looking at the whole time. It only showed one view and it only showed the play on about a one half second gap. You couldn't see her coming in with two feet. All you could see was her being there with two feet.

I really feel bad for Engen, I remember she captained her U-20 team a couple years ago in La Manga, Spain.

80' 2-1 Yellow card on Engen.

81' 2-1 Torrent wins a 1-v-1 duel vs. Herlovsen at 8m mid-left for a high ball, France clear into far touch.

82' 2-1 France subs in (1 of 3) #14 Charlotte Bilbault for #17 Gaëtane Thiney.

VAR has now resulted in two penalties where the attacker runs into the clearing defender’s foot. Those should never be called. Decided winner of each game.

The delay is going to get someone hurt

84' 2-1 France subs in (2 of 3) #20 Delphine Cascarino for #13 Valerie Gauvin.

86' 2-1 Norway subs in (2 of 3) #5 Synne Skinnes Hansen for #2 Ingrid Moe Wold.

87' 2-1 Norway's helter-skelter pace and high-risk forward passing has cut their average possession time. France are content to play aggressive defense, destroy possessions, and look for counters.

88' 2-1 Henry(?) leads a 3-v-3 counter through circle left, switches right to Cascarino. Cascarino jukes Minde(?) down mid-right to 2m, crosses through 6-top left too far in front of Diani and Le Sommer, Skinnes Hansen(?) collects.

    Sorry, got pulled away.

She missed the ball - bad luck and am sure it wasn't intentional, but intent doesn't figure into whether or not a foul is a foul.

Watch a replay again, carefully. I see the ball being played by the French attacker just before the kick came through from the Norwegian.

    “A grind it out win”?
    Seriously?

If they’re not gifted a PK, they draw

90' 2-1 Cascarino drives through arc top box right, Minde gambles and pokes ball away just-in-time -- no way she could backpedal in time if she missed. France cross from ~wide right, Hjelmseth catches high. +4'.

90+1' (of +4') 2-1 Norway longball to 14m center, Bouhaddi comes out and catches while diving -- drops ball, but it bounces right back to her.

90+1' (of +4') 2-1 Norway subs in (3 of 3) #18 Frida Maanum for #8 Vilde Bøe Risa.

Same. They were not finishing their chances and got gifted a winning goal.

True. The French attacker hits it and it is heading for the “D” of the PA. Then the Norwegian defender hits it entirely changing the direction of the ball.

The ball could not have gone that direction without a touch from the defender

90+3' (of +4') 2-1 Norway right throw-in at arc top, served into box mid-left but nobody is making that run.

    90+5' (of +4') 2-1 Majri left throw-in at 6m, and --

FT 2-1. Bouhaddi was flawless :notworthy:

Really poor to give that as a penalty. Shame to end like that as it was probably the best game so far.

The best game so far. Hope Eve will get some time next game.

Why didn't Ada play the WWC, thing would have been different if she is here today.

I had been almost persuaded that it could have been a penalty, after all, then Alexi Lalas in the Fox "Tour Eiffel terrace" studio defended it vehemently, so I understood it had to be a wrong call!

I have to give it to her. I expected a blunder at any moment, but she was very commanding instead. :notworthy:

She chose to protest over her dreams and her teammates.

I have no objection with the object of the protest, but it should be protested as a team, not individually.

She will come to regret skipping a WC and abandoning her teammates.
