I think that midfield can work - but IMO ozil will only be nominally central Jose was discussing the more hybrid formations So Bellerin as the wide right winger Ozil playing narrower - but where he can use his assisting Auba as the other winger I guess a lot depends on who you are playing Pep tends to keep the field very big, by having a player like Sane high and wide all the time. Liverpool tend to use the fullback for that
Tierney and bin an play those roles and luiz can slot in as a third cb was my thinking I prefer preppier wide players but it’s impossible to play auba and laca as 2 forwards and play Pepe
Fair. I was thinking of the DDG of prior... the god. Which I assume he can/will reattain. Still, Leno does not seem to be at his level, does not seem to have his ceiling.
Yeah that's basically what I was implying. Also that Emery may want to be sensitive to this as he considers playing all three of them at once
On one hand it makes sense to consider Luiz at the DM position. It certainly could reduce his liability. BUT The problem is you have to sacrifice someone like Torreira. Which seems crazy. Sacrificing a guy who could be A future linchpin in your midfield, for an old geezer who's on a one year contract and has quality issues?
Oh. I misunderstood you. All of a sudden that wretched song is starting to become a mainstream Anthem. I agree, it's bizarre and rather unfortunate. Ps. When I heard that my dad does sing-alongs to Sweet Caroline every Friday night happy hour at his assisted-living facility, I really woke up to this disturbing trend.
It's odd. I can recall hearing it at a lot of bars in the late 90s when there'd be some dude with an acoustic who'd play that really late to get all the drunks singing. From there it seemed to migrate to being a Boston Red Sox thing. And now the contagion has continued to spread. As for the match --- Xhaka ---- I think I posted recently that for his first few seasons I tried to defend him and honestly thought he just needed other really good MFs around him. Now? No --- just --- no. He nets out negative at this point. I also agree with the sentiment that it's harsh to blame Leno for that first goal. Maaaaybe he could've parried it stronger? But that's a big maybe, as I thought he looked at full stretch. The bigger issue was Sokratis. No reason whatsoever that he should get sucked in to trying to win that ball. Xhaka was there, worry about the second ball. Also, I suppose I need to watch the match again to review, but I generally thought AMN played fairly well, yet Son still seemed to have acres of space out on that side way too often. So the part of AMN can't be right can it?
Is there a thread about Emery tactics and general football philosophy (to be more precise lackthereof)? If not, it may be time for one now.
He’s played so many systems and hasn’t stuck with anything we are not sure what his desired system is
I said beginning of last season that midfield would be Duzy-Torreira. I was about 6 months off. The triangle of death: Papa-Luiz-Xhaka can never play all together again.
But one of the few instances where a cover is better than the original IMO. Again --- referencing the Donnie Darko soundtrack
Yeah - love that film Keep in mind I am from the actual 80s though - and was not a big tears for fears fan when it came out. I was 12 at the time But yeah - they were huge with the girls of the class
