If any of the starters see the field, it's the wrong decision. The depth shouldn't even see the field. Start Hoppenot and some academy kids. Who cares.
If they put in any effort for this one, then they obviously don't give a flying fcuk about Wednesday's USOC final.
If Montreal loses tonight, I can see the FO justifying having the starters in for this game. They'll give us the "not quite mathematically eliminated" excuse, and some people will buy it. I will be angry about this. If Montreal wins tonight, I can see the FO justifying having the starters in for this game. They'll give us the "we play every game to win" excuse, and some people will buy it. I will be FURIOUS about this. No matter if I'm angry or furious about who plays in this match...we lose.
This looks good. Nobody vital. In the formation of a giant "X" to signify how much I don't care. Plus, maybe McCarthy gets injured so Blake starts the final.
McLaughlin is out and won't play. Wenger has a knee sprain and probably won't play either. I think that Lahoud is starting the final so I would think that Carroll will start this weekend. Nando or Casey will start up top. I think it will be something along the lines of this: Aristeguieta Ayuk Pfeffer Le Toux Carroll Creavalle Fabinho Vitoria White Gaddis Blake/McCarthy Ayuk, Le Toux, Fabinho and Gaddis are fit enough to do the Saturday/Wednesday thing.
I like that lineup, @WVUPharm2007 ... but the formation is wrong. I call this, the Big F (from the U).
The Union are still operating under the "playoffs are still a possibility" mindset. Prepare to be furious.
Can anyone work up a chart of things that are more likely to happen to you than watching the Union make the playoffs at this point? At what point do we reach "shark attack" and "struck by lightning while golfing" territory, or are we already there?
Montreal won last night. They still have 2 games in hand, and are 6 points clear of us. I'm not big on figuring out probabilities, but, to pass them without any other considerations we would need to go, at least, 2-1-1. Let's grant ourselves the 2 wins over TFC & OCSC. We would then need to draw either RBNY or NE. Now that we've done that we have to hope that Montreal does not get anything from their last 6 games (keeping in mind that they get to play TFC, OCSC, & Colorado). So, again, I'm not the guy who crunches the percentages, but, we have to be close to "struck by lightning" numbers as EdBacon mentioned. ETA: TFC is certainly in a slump, but we need to go undefeated (at least 2-0-2) to pass them, so I'm not even worried about that.
TFC is slumping? I was at the match Saturday and they toyed with Colorado. I think they had a few matches without Giovinco, Jozy and Bradley due to injuries and call ups. Like a lot of teams depth is an issue. If they play we lose.
With gambling on MLS games, starting Hoppenot would likely result in such a late run on bets for a Revs win that the game would need to be taken off the board. I would guess the line-up will be reserve-heavy but Shrimp Club members like Hoppenot and Bird would likely be subs not starters. With Sylvestre, McLaughlin and Wenger all injured - Aristeguieta is also listed with a groin injury, I could see: G - Blake (should start the USOC Final but Curtin will sink/swim with fellow local boy and give Blake this throwaway game) RB - Creavalle CB - White CB - Vitoria LB - Gaddis or Fabinho (should have used open roster spot to get a free agent LB just for this game) DM - Carroll CM - Pfeffer AM - Fred RM - Ayuk LM - Le Toux (would be Wenger if healthy) F - Aristeguieta Subs - Hoppenot for Aristeguieta, Bird for Le Toux, Fabinho/Gaddis for Gaddis/Fabinho
Starting Creavalle anywhere on the backline, as opposed to a DM position, would also have the same effect on the betting line as Hopp up top.
Gonna cross my fingers and hope they're smart enough to do the right thing, but as we all know that's probably a stretch.
