I love soccer fans who use all the 'advanced' terminology to look smart, but the analysis itself makes no sense.
I can't even remember the guy's name, he's so much of a non-impact... 5 years. Three coaches. The number of games are guys had good off-ball movement can be counted on one hand. Why have we been so consistently bad at this skill over our entire history?
I do wonder how long it will be before Sak throws Curtin into the rain, placing all blame on him, and appoints Mike Sorber head coach (justifying it by touting his career achievements, most notably playing in the 1994 World Cup).
I am so glad that I went to the Phillies game instead! Curtin has to go. He can talk but he can not get the best out of players and is tactically weak. If the Union wants to attract a bigger crowd then they have to give us a better product, especially on a night when the Eagles, Phillies and Union all play at the same time.
Yeah that was a bunch of us in 138 trying in vain to bring some semblance of creativity and originality to TRE chants.
What did the old serby bastard have to say? From Wikipedia, it looks like he's out of a job right now. I would love if they signed him as coach.
His U-20 team recently won the WC. Saw that win against Brazil. Think he can get a much better job than getting a job here.
Seriously... 87% passing accuracy, 3 tackles (0 lost), 6 interceptions, 3 recoveries (including one towards the end when he came all the way back to cover for the absence of a LB), and 1 clearance.
A sampling from their post-match thread: "Match was mostly positives..." "I think the worst thing is I thought we were actually in this match..." "We looked solid first half. Very dangerous..." "Barnetta looked good..."
First, I am incredibly frustrated but the season is a goner. Since there is a lot of negativity, I thought I'd chime in because there was a bit of good stuff here. First, they really didn't give away many chances. The goal came from Ray's giveaway. I noticed that the skill guys were not trusting Ray as an option. Nogs played him a pass after scanning the field at least three times for any better option. He was rewarded by having Ray send a simple pass into touch and then failing to track Fagundez on the goal. There weren't too many other chances for NE. I also thought the U controlled possession well in the first half. There were some very slick interchanges but the finishing was dreadful. Next year's tagline could be, if only we finished an early chance. Once they went down, they reverted to the ol' hoof and hope mode. Has this ever been successful for us? Nando had the touch of an elephant, and we look so unlikely to score on a corner that I really don't think teams fear conceding them. Blake was good. I hope we don't screw him up too. Another tag line?
That game showed me further evidence of how having Gaddis and Le Toux on the same side of the field puts a strain on attacking up the right side. Both habitually turn the ball over with poor passing. Unfortunately, I think the Union are not getting what they were looking for from spending a little bit more cash than usual on Nando and Barnetta. At least until now, they do not seem to upgrade the squad in the way we had hoped for.
Gaddis is completely ineffectual creatively, and his defensive work has been lacking recently. An attack develops on the right, the ball goes to him and it's like slamming on the brakes. He's just not up to the level of awareness that Chaco, Barnetta, etc are at with passing and movement. Even Fabinho and Le Toux are at a higher level. Vitoria annoyed me with his fist-pump after recovering to break down an attack HE HAD CAUSED with a giveaway. Nando couldn't do a thing right. I've liked him but he seems to have given up on this team. At this point I have more faith in Casey as an attacking sub. All 3 subs had pretty much zero impact. The whole offensive strategy is slow and predictable in the extreme. Competent teams like NE will not be bothered by it. Aside from against fellow bottom-feeders like Chicago, we'll struggle to score. As for Chaco's red, that was just the cherry on this particular s*** sundae. I agree with WVU, not bothered by a suspension, he'll get a rest before the USOC final. At least SKC are tanking as well. Definitley a 'why-do-we-bother' feeling in the crowd Saturday. There are 3 home games left. Hope we as fans can express our dissatisfaction... if we're allowed to, of course.
Well, according to sporstclub stats we are down to a 4% chance to make the playoffs. Statistically, in order to give ourselves ~50% of getting into the 6th spot we need to go 5-0-2 or 4-3-0. You know, because we've been able to go 7 games with a 2.14 PPG so often.
So our lofty goals of finishing 6th are not to be realized? What a shame... Do you think they'll let seven teams in next year? Our new aspiration can be "lower-mid table" rather than mid-table.
