Have you done this comparison and omitted the two wins against tired jetlagged west coast teams? To me it seems they just had better matchups as time went on. Not sure they got much better as a team. I mean, benching mbolhi was addition by subtraction so there was that.
Ding ding ding... there was even a column earlier in the season, Brotherly Game I think, that said "well, I know we suck now, but we won't always suck this hard - no team sucks this hard all the time - so we will get better!!"
Is there anything within the context of playing winning soccer that this team does consistently exceedingly well ? /argument.
Maybe we are talking past each other a little bit but regression toward the mean from being horrible is still improvement. So nothing that I have said should be an issue for you. I do see a team that was horrible and is moving to be mediocre as a problem but not a catastrophic problem that requires a mushroom cloud. Credit should be given to this team for not just tanking and packing it in. They are trying to improve themselves and i think that the season bears that out.
What's wrong with tanking? If we're going to suck, let's be serious about it. At least we'll be the best at something.
Jeez Philadelphia fans are in a really dark place rn. I'm glad that MLS doesn't incentivize tanking to the degree the NBA does.
The problem is that their "improvement" only ever gets to "meh" and then inevitably plummets back towards horrible. If inconsistent mediocrity is your goal, then I guess all is well.
