Maybe I need to go back and watch the replay, but that yellow at the end should have been a straight red right? Denial of a goal scoring opportunity and all. Granted, it didn't matter, but still. Great game. Got tickets with the family on the lawn. Saw the goal up close and personal and they had a blast. Want to come to the next game now. And great turn out for a night the Thunder were playing, OKCFC was playing, the Redhawks were playing, Women's College World Series was going on, etc.
According to the "Advice to Referees" that the USSF published, determining what makes a goal scoring opportunity requires a "Yes" to the 4 D's: 1. Defenders 2. Distance to Goal 3. Distance to Ball 4. Direction to Goal 1. There were no other defenders between the ball and the goal - Yes 2. The play was just outside the top of the penalty area - Yes 3. Both players were only a stride from the ball, and the player fouled would have been able to make a touch if he had not been fouled - Yes 4. The run of play was heading away from the goal and toward the end line to the right of the goal - No. Link - discussion of DOGSO is on page 54: https://sites.google.com/site/ayso1...s/2013-2014advicetorefereesonthelawsofthegame
Yea, that makes sense BUT they were just outside the box, Greig had the Pink Cows player beat, so he could have controlled the ball and got a decent shot off. I guess it is really the refs call in the end, but I've seen similar plays get the straight red. Thanks for the link and the education.
Also impressive: Red Bulls had Kimura - who has a full seven seasons of experience starting for MLS first teams. Not exactly an unproven developing player on the reserve team.
yeah they played well I wonder if this will serve as a catalyst and spur more winning. It has to at least give the team a boost in confidence.
the match earned Michael Thomas Player of the week honors http://uslpro.uslsoccer.com/home/814416.html
