Love the spirit in last couple of posts. Couldnt agree more - Pekerman doesn't always get it right but when he's wrong there is a logic to what he's tried and he adjusts fast. Has been dealt a tough hand in this tournament and delivered.
context villus. During WCQ, a 3 1/4 Year process, too many things happen. Jeison was a rock star for 2015 CA. Pekerman started him during many qualifiers and he choked. Who even thought of Davinson back in 2015 as a starting CB in EPL and Colombia for the WC? Just saying, in hindsight we should have told Sanchez not to extend his hand for the red card vs Japan and told Cardona not to make racist gestures
After seeing the other hand balls this cup..... not because I am colombian.... anyone agree it was a bit rough to give him a red + PK?
But its not 2015 its 2018 and we can't judge a player (especially a young player) simply based on how they perform for Colombia, there are so little games and young players like Sanchez and Mina can be wildly different players from one year to the next based on development. So what do we do? We look at how they are doing for their club and Davinson has been a damn rock star consistently for his club and Mina was the same before he made a mid season jump to one of the two biggest teams in the world. Especially a position like CB which is much less attached to a teams style of play, they both play in a back 4 so its not like a '10' that doesn't fit in many systems or an out and out winger who's great but doesn't fit a system etc. Sanchez and Mina coming into the world cup should have (and other then the first game have) been given every chance to be our starting pair.
Nah its clear cut in the rules deliberate hand ball to stop a goal, the ref had no choice. In the time of VAR it was even more of a brain fart.
I still think Jeison has something to give to the National Team and I think he is a great leader on the pitch. Of course, there are many who still disagree with me and he's clearly done something to lose Pekerman's favour.
the red card seemed harsh for me... maybe a little bias in me but idk... it wasn't a clear proven depiction that he deliberately throw his arm out there... the arm was high as he jumped... made contact etc... seemed very far n out to without question call it preventing goal. but I get the spirit of the rule... but idk...
Not for a second. Clear intention, red and pk. Awful from Carlitos, but he served his suspension and played ok the other day. Just hope we get Barrios in Tuesday.
No way you can argue he isn’t better then Oscar. Say he better then Cristian both ending their careers. Someone did mention that Oscar is the only LCB. Every one is is right sided which helps his case. I can’t see a new coach not having Jesion on the team but he will never bench Sanchez or Mina. He is older as well that doesn’t help his case. Unless we go to a 3 in the back formation. I just don’t see/rate any of backups after those 3 I have always had a soft spot for Meza since he and Mina played at Santa Fe. Sucks he keeps getting injured. Also like Barriero who plays in Mexico but these guys should have just gone to Nacional instead and would probably be in Europe right now.
I would like to see jeison back in the next cycle. He may be inconsistent, but he is a big game type CB. Just hope that Mina finds regular playing time next season, if that means going on loan somewhere I’m all for it. I do see Davinson as a guy who will likely play in 18 of 18 WCQ games next cycle.
