Another game ruined by a handball in the box. Soccer has got to do something, move the spot back, make the goal wider. PKs and own goals and FKs only entertain the perverse.
Or a defender who plays professional soccer can keep his arms close to his sides. Players know the rules.
Yea this really isn't the situation to make a big fuss about. I can see the discussion from the other game with handling at head height but there is no chance that the SK player in this game didn't intentionally put his hand up there. Nailed on PK.
So I think Mazic shut down the early staccato of fouls well but the vibe is one of "what the heck is it going to take to get a caution?"
Easier said than done. Anybody who plays or watches baseball, for example, knows that when you slide feet-first it is almost inevitable that one arm (the one opposite the leg you are leading the slide with) is going to come up in the air a bit. By the letter of the law it's the correct call, because having the arm in the air does make the defender bigger, but at the same time it's a completely natural body position.
I’ve seen far too many slides where the arms are no where near near that position to call that natural.
I would say it's understandable, but not natural in the terms used to sort handling from non-handling.
