Very interested to see how this match plays out. IMO probably one of the toughest of the first round of group games.

Clear cut penalty but was it just a yellow?

I saw that too. My first thought was he can't do that...

But it was a penalty IMO

Pretty strong orange there...could have gone either way.

Wow thats a tough decision. I hate the "too early for a red" debate but I will say that 10 minutes in, I just don't feel convinced enough to go red. I'll say good job Mazic.

Agreed. Could make a strong argument for Red. Hate the surrounding of the referee. Uncalled for.

I could see it going either way. There were defenders close, but I'm not sure close enough to clear DOGSO.

Looks like a good penalty. No DOGSO. Pepe comes over to protest and puts his hands on Mazic but Mazic shoves him away! Balls of steel!

Notice how he pushed away one of the Portugal players protesting?

    Fairly convincing shove...

I've seen Collina do that shove as well - kinda liked it here...

Saw that, could get away with that in a WC match but don't try it in a youth match...

Certainly not a strategy I'd recommend emulating below the professional leve. . . .

I think FIFA are working towards the interpretation being unless it's a 100% clear and obvious scoring opportunity then round it down to a YC.
I think Mazic will be ok with the YC, other players were in immediate vicinity.

BTW - I think red would have been pretty harsh

Hell, I would say below the world stage. Imagine if the player pushes back harder. Now what? I'm certainly not in the camp of "never touch" players but apparently I'm in the "never push" group. :D

Thought it was pretty clear DOGSO. I can see that my opinion may be unpopular, but he was about to have a clear shot for 7-8 metres out...

Would the penalty have been a DOGSO red card call late in the game (and would the score at that point have made a difference to the color of the card)?

Not red for me, others where there, what happened to no need for yellow in the PA theory? I would have been 100% fine with a PK and no card

My views have been evolving of this triple punishment debate. I'm starting to like it. A penalty and a red just seems an absurd punishment for that offense.

Yeah, I agree. Player touches me I'll just send them off.
